As a thought, I see many projects using McM stocks in tactical configurations. At once, I see no point in a full meal deal BR action. Not because they don't help in accuracy, they do, but because the tolerances can put the rifle in trouble IF used as a rough and tumble rifle.
I also see limited use for a top ranked barrel. It will never be used to its fullest potential. Plus, many are bored undersize which can cause issues with many non match quality bullets.
The subtleties of BR accuracy are totally lost on a bipod rested, field rig. You will not see much if any benefit based on the equipment and costs. The stock/bipod alone will hurt your ability to shoot the rifles best. Don't believe me, just have a look at any and all tactical forums or articles where the owners of these mega dollar rigs are thrilled with their 1/4 to 1/2 MOA rifles.
If 1/4 MOA was the best a rifle could do, you will not 'survive' in the BR world. Many off the shelf rifles with load work up and a bit of tuning will shoot 1/2 MOA or better.
1/2 MOA in real world field LR shooting is nothing to sneeze at. That's hitting clays everytime at 800yds.
No matter how good the barrel, the chamber and its specs will determine your ultimate accuracy. Most chambers reamers just don't shoot BR accurate. Meaning, the best barrel in the world with a so so chamber will only shoot so so. Same goes for bullets.
Work backwards from what you actually want this rifle to do and how you are going to use it. You might find that a commercial or well prepped military action will do better for your needs. And function better to boot.
So let's say you want an accurate tactical/field/hunting rifle in a 308. Pick up a Savage 10FV, drop the accutrigger as light as it will go, bed it and work up a load. Already you have 1/2MOA accuracy, maybe better. Now you have lots of money for optics and a GOOD range finder. That will pay way more dividends in real world accuracy. Error in scope and/or rangefinder will plague you and you will never know it.
