I've seen a number of these M96 Lefty stocks listed at Tradex over the years, and I also own one. Any ideas as to the history or maker of them?

Since the majority of these come from Denmark/Sweden, I'd guess one of those countries. The rifles in those stocks all seem to have the same action work done on them... shortened and angled cocking piece, same welded bolt handles, same side safety triggers.
Anthony at Tradex might know what shop did them up like this.

This rifle was built by a company i Sweden who modified cocking pieces, bolt shrouds, replaced the bolt handles and locking time and midified the receiver to accept an aftermarket trigger in the '80's.
They used SILE in Italy to make their stocks (that's what you get on the puicture).

Interesting. Thanks. It sounds as though their was two SILE companies. SILE of New York, largely an importer, and SILE of Italy. Apparently a fairly large stock manufacturer. Not sure of the accuracy of this, as it just came off the web.

SILE also made the original stocks for the Italian M1's. They have been around for a looong time.
I think Parker Hale used their stocks for a lot of their rifles as well.

SILE: I think Parker Hale used their stocks for a lot of their rifles as well.

A lot of the higher grade Parker-Hale .303 conversions will have a "SILE" stamp on the wood, generally under the buttplate or recoil pad. Great Italian walnut. Here is a picture of one I used to own:
