Hey there,

does anyone on the boards shoot in the factory class?

I am looking at a couple regional matches and will be buying/entering in factory for economy's sake.

what I am looking at:

Ruger precision rifle 6.5 CM
Savage model 12 LRP 6.5CM
Tikka T3 varmint or tactical HB TBD

Optics:

Viper pst ffp 6-24
Sightron FFP TBD

What are you competitors using for this class? what are you guys/gals seeing at the comps?

Thanks.

I won't be in factory class, the $$ limit is almost reached by the time I get a barrel spun up. Id be in tactical as I've got a 308.

Production Division rifles are not permitted to be altered or improved in any way from the original factory configuration.
Production Division combined rifle and scope MSRP as listed on the company’s website shall not exceed $3,000 USD, the rifle shall not exceed $2,000 USD and the optic not exceed $2,000 USD.

You should post a run down of the PRS rules for us. I'm guessing it's something that very few members know about..... I know I'd appreciate it....

Production Division is a new thing, there have only been a few matches. So, I'm not sure that you will get a lot of feedback about the equipment being used. All of the eligible equipment for Production Division is listed in the rule book (Appendix A-4): http://www.precisionrifleseries.com/prs_rules.pdf

The RPR was designed with input from PRS shooters, so its going to be the best suited. I would look at something built a little more solid than a Sightron or a PST (Sightron isn't in the approved equipment list). Scopes get whacked off of things in PRS and you'll probably end up ramming the turrets into barricades, window frames and rocks to get better stability. I would be looking at the Bushnell HDMR/DMR or LRHS, Burris Xtreme Tactical II or Nightforce SHV F1 if its in your budget.

Thanks for the input!!

I am halfway through the rule manual now. I think I have my heart set on the RPR in 6.5, I just was curious if there was something I was overlooking -that competitors are being effective with -due to lack of experience.

MSRP on the RPR is 1399 USD so that leaves 1600USD MSRP for an optic.... I figured the Vortex was a safe bet.. maybe not so much?

Mike.

I think the Vortex is OK. I'm not a competitor (yet), but I have, and have had several, and it's a great value. I don't kick the sh!t out of them though.

The thing with PRS matches is that you will end up kicking the crap out of your gear even if you don't mean to. You have tight time limits, you have a lot of movement and you have obstacles that you have to shoot under, over, around and thru (not so much in field matches, but in places like K&M and CORE, there is tons of this stuff). It's fun and exhilarating, and once the adrenaline starts going and you're trying to navigate things quickly and focused on the shooting, you will bang your gear into things and you will be rough on it. It's the nature of the sport. It's one of the reason equipment manufacturers are so keen to sponsor it and have people use their gear in it.

Just an update. Ended up making a donation to the local cabelas and walking out with the RPR in 6.5 CM and the Bushnell 6-24ers ffp.I haven't had the best experience with Bushnell in the past so hopefully this was a wise choice. Based solely on input from the interwebs

I just got a Bushnell ERS 3.5-21× and I like it a lot. Seems very solid. I don't know what reticle you got but the G2 is awesome. I think you will like it. Seems like a lot better optic than Bushnell's older scopes.
