who stocks 44-40?

I have heard this several times, but have never found instructions, can anyone provide a tutorial?

This is from the Handloader's Manual of Cartridge Conversions:

"Turn rim to .525" dia., back chamfer and cut case to 1.35". Taper expand case mouth to .430" dia. F/L size. Trim to length (1.305"). I.D. neck ream and chamfer. F/L size."

I have never had to turn any rims as I have always found the rims on .303 cases to be the correct size. Maybe because I have an old "cape gun" and the chamber may be oversize.

Also, I just cut the .303 case to the correct length, expand the case mouth, chamfer the case neck and then full length size.

It would be a whole lot easier to make a phone call to the bullet barn, and order 100 bullets and 100 starline 44-40 cases.

Or you could try calling Clay at Prophet River to see if he has any 44-40 cartridges. I bought a case from him a while back. But Clay is in Saskatchewan.

Have you tried calling Epps. They carry 30-40 Krag cartridges, so I would bet they also have 44-40 cartridges.
