Who stocks decent holsters?

Is every Canadian city like Vancouver where you can only find a bad fitting Uncle Mike's cordura holster with a lousy snap that won't snap for a S&W 686? I know it's a $25.00 holster but where are the good ones? So far it seems that I'm having to order most goodies (mags, speedloaders, etc) from the US.

+1 ... I can't find a decent leather, fitted belt holster (any style) for a 1911 commander for cryin' out loud.

I'm afraid that you have two choices:

1. You can buy a police sidearm and visit a police supply store, where you'll find a fine selection for Glocks and maybe Sigs.

2. You can visit holster manufacturers' websites and order on-line. (I just did.) You might want to start here:

Unfortunately, no shop in Canada is going to invest in holsters if only a few Canadians outside of law enforcement have any use for them.

Of course, the more you donate to CSSA, the more likely it will be that you will see ATC's in this country--sooner or later.

You can order stock holsters from Bianchi or Galco. But if you're looking for a decent high quality holster, you have no choice but to order and wait up to 12 weeks for it.
Most quality gun leather shops are one man operations, but the wait is well worth it.

You can pick up a decent holster from ebay. Many retailers in the US will ship here at a reasonable rate. Just don't let them use a courier service, as 'brokerage fees' are insane.

I know Target Sports has a good stock of Fobus and Tac Pro kydex holsters as well as leather ones.

Pretty sure The Shooting Edge and Daves Surplus have a good selection.

I would think P&D have some stock as well.

I've got lots of TAG and HSGI drop leg, MOLLE and shoulder holsters in stock and can bring in Tac Pro.

I've tried Dave's, and all the usual places around Metro Vancouver. I understand there isn't a large market here for more expensive holsters for 6" revolvers and that's just life. How about across the line? Are there any shops between here and Seattle where a guy can pick up something nice for my naked 686? I won't embarrass it by putting it in the Uncle Mike's.

"...embarrass it by putting it in the Uncle Mike's..." Don't know where you get the idea that Uncle Mike's holsters are bad. They aren't.

BC Mike,

Have you tried M.D. Charlton out in New West (across from the J.I.)? I can't find my catalog from them, and their webstore does not list all their products (precious few actually). IIRC they have lots of Gould and Goodrich and Tex Shoemaker leather. Classic duty type gear...even basket weave. I'm sure one of them must make something for the 586/686 considering it was/is a mainstay duty firearm.

Might be worth giving them a call to see if they offer something that will work for you....

I'm not implying they are all bad but the design of the one I have (see image) is flawed in that the snap requires using two hands to lift up and in just under the cylinder to close properly and even then it can partially snap closed only to pop open again. The belt slide is not wide enough and allows the heavy 686 to flop around as you walk. This product could have been much better with a bit of thought put into how it is supposed to be used. I don't expect a competition holster here only something to adequately retain the firearm and keep it secure while moving around. I'll check out Charlton's in New West & thanks for the input.

The fit of my Galco is superb. I just contacted them about the mag holders and they were very quick to respond. I have a feeling that they are good business people.

+1 Galco, they ship to Canada, I got a nice hip holster(synthetic) for under 30(until shipping)
I've been looking at Galco holsters and they look great. I guess I'll have to order from the US. If the product isn't available here at least I won't feel guilty about not supporting Canadian business. Thanks to all for the input.

These people are or atleast were Canadian but they are set up in the States to take advantage of the bigger market....
