Who uses HIVIZ sightes?

I added a set of Browning HIVIZ bird busters to my 870 today, what a difference. Details: http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php?t=207266

Anyhow, just wondering how many others use these or similar and what your impressions are, did your shooting or hit ratio increase???

I have HIVIZ sights on one of my guns. It came that way. I do not think that HIVIZ or any other sight for that matter makes much difference on a properly mounted gun that is fitted to the shooter or a gun that the shooter is familiar with. I think that eyes on the target is more important than eyes on the sights.

HIVIZ sights may have some benifit for an aimed shot with slugs or buck!

I'm not a fan of the HIVIZ or similar glow type sights as just something to distract from concentrating on the target be it clay or other. May have a use for the dedicated guns as Covey Ridge has pointed out and to the turkey hunters ( which I want to do some day ) .

Properly mounted gun - concentration - follow through and no need of a glow stick on front of the barrel.

I have them on all of my shotguns. On my Baikal Semi and my former Browning Semi the factory bead was quite small so it adds a bit. Also really like it against a brigh background such as snow or a bright overcast.
The real benefit is those last 5 minutes of legal time when the birds are flying.

My buddy also "hates HiViz" but he had to borrow one of my guns the other day when we were crow hunting, after about 10 crows or so, I asked him about the Hi-Viz... he didn't even realize it was there, I think he likes them now.

I like the green ones the best, in low light the red ones are hard to see.

How much were the browning ones? The Hi-Viz brand seems to run about $19-$27 and comes with 4 tubes.

I run HiVis on all my shotguns. I'm kinda new to shotguns and still like the idea of having sights as opposed to a bead. I find them really easy to use and they allowed me to perform consistently right off the bat as opposed to re-learning how to shoot. I know that this may be the "easy way out" but I don't care.

If your buddy didn't realize it was there, he probably just knows how to swing and point and keep his eye on the target. I do not hate HiViz, but I think that the way I learned to shoot, that they are not needed. Often when I am aware of the sight, I find that the target or bird keeps going:( I know more than a few who aim or sight there guns and I think for them it may help.:D

PS I have been with shooters and it has happened to me, where a sight has come off a gun and it was not noticed til the shooting was over. I have also been with shooters who lost a sight and either quit shooting or made such a big deal about it that they were not able to shoot well.

i bought a set of hi-viz sights for my Mossberg, and ended up taking them off the next day. they now sit in my toolbox gathering dust.
IMO theres a reason a simple brass or ivory bead has survived for so long in this day and age of high technology - its because it works.
i have a Benelli with ghost rings/tritium inserts that i prefer for slugs but for general shotgun use IMO nothing beats a simple low-key brass bead. i think hi-vis sights are a distraction - you should not be looking AT the sight, or even really noticing it at all. you point a shotgun, not aim it.

that said im no pro target shooter by a long shot, i just use a shotgun for hunting and hand-thrown clays now and then.

I am going to save this post for my collection. It is a manbearpig post that I sort of mostly agree with:confused: or....Maybe it is the painkiller that I took for my back that put me in my happy place ;)

I do agree with you, I will have to try shooting without them a gain and see, really it is just those last few minutes where I really notice them anyway.

Is that a Baikal MP150? What sight did you mount on the gun and I assume the bead sight screws out?

Had a set on my Maverick 88, and they worked well.

I never found them distracting, but then again I practiced allot with that Shotgun set up like that. I found they were esp' helpful grouse hunting in thick brush.
