Who's hunting Camp Wainwright?

Season 1 - Primitive weapons starts tomorrow. Let the gong show begin lol. We have antlerless moose and Camp deer. Anybody else going?

I know a couple guys out to hunt cow moose in the muzzleloader season.

My son drew a deer licence for the first rifle season and I will go to drive him around and film his hunt.

You apply like any other draw thru ALBERTARELM, but the seasons are only three days long (primitive weapon x 3 days, rifle 1 x 3 days, rifle 2 x3 days....etc.). By about the 4th 3 day rifle season....the deer are pretty skittish. The base is also subject to area closures, as training is still happening. This is explained every morning @ 7am when you check in. On the first day of each 3 day season you have to sit thru a briefing where base officials read you the riot act about conduct, travel route....generally reinforced who's in charge and that this hunt is a privilege.

I wish. Didn't put in for deer as we figured son would get a moose tag for first rifle. 9 missed it, knew from prev. results it'd be a coin flip this year. Next yr's a lock for him.

How has everyone done on the Wainwright deer so far? I spent all of Rifle 2 driving around and seeing more moose than deer. I saw exactly 4 deer during shooting hours over the course of 3 days.

Weather, road conditions, and snow kept everyone pretty much confined to main roads. If you decided that tromping through 2+ feet of crunchy snow was a better idea, the deer spooked out before you could get anywhere near them.

Ah well, there's always next year!
