So the BFR is gone and the 460 S&W is on it's way. I don't have any load data for the 460 yet but I do like hot loads (above factory loadings ;) ) and am curious what everyone is loading. I do use a lot of Alliant 2400 in my 357 and 44 mag so it would me nice if I could continue using it in the 460. What's your "hot"
460 recipe?

I will look when I get home... I have a couple gooders for 240gr XTP Mag, 300gr XTP Mag, and even some lovely eye popping 340gr LFP GC loads for the 460. Shooting 45 colt and 454 casull at near nuclear levels is also a hoot in this revolver! I used Hodgdons website for "published maximums" before pushing them using "lil gun" and H110 and even have some recipes for the .454 casull using "blue dot" (very flamy) :). If you are interested I can send you a pm when I get near my books again. Enjoy!

I have completed a good deal of hot loading for the 460. You will have trouble meeting, much less exceeding the factory Hornady 200FTX loads using shelf powders. Case volume is not your friend with the 200s using 'standard' powders. I did find a container of Leverevolution powder that is supposedly the factory powder used with the 200s.

250 FTX bullets can be pushed to 2400ft/s from a 460V, however I would not load a second batch.

I have hot data for Barnes 275 (again not the easiest to exceed velocities from the Federal Premium loads) and 300gn LHC as well if needed.

I would love to hear these recipes..... The latest joke at the range is that my next revolver will be made of adamantium to withstand my reloads.... :D

That should exceed factory loads

Lil'Gun 30 gr. 1,438 fps Avg. Hi=1535, Lo=1385, Spread=150.1 MAX Load.

Use at your own risk ;)

Do yourself a favor and stock up on some 460 Starline Brass if you're gonna run hot.

Found the other brands didn't hold up well to repeated loadings. Split necks and spiral cracks.

An internal gauge also comes in handy to make sure there's nothing funny happening inside the case ;)

A buddy had better luck with his brass, he only resized the case as needed to properly seat the bullet.

The 460 is a real high pressure beastie, never felt comfortable pushing the envelope with it. That's why I traded it for a 45-70 BFR, easier loadings and plenty of thump available when I want it.

So I came up with the 28 gr load as Alliant lists 31 as max.... Then today I'm on the S&W forums and one of the guys is running 42gr of 2400 with a 250gr????? Sounds a little hot to me....
