Who's shooting the s&w 500 and how you feeding it?

My 500 came with 4 boxes of hornady, ive fired off one of those boxes. They still have the $89 sticker on them.

Google Lee hand press. If you want to shoot that thing and are not wealthy reloading will become your thing. When you sell it the dies and components can go with it recouping most of your investment.
275gr up to 700gr, hand loads only because i refuse to pay $4 a shot. I also cast my own bullets to save even more. Works out to roughly 25 cents a shot or $5 a box

If reloading is absolutely not an option i hope you are prepared to pay though the nose for ammo. Nobody makes "cheap" 500sw ammo. It's really a reloaders caliber...
Yah I've always tried to steer clear of reloading but I guess it's a must have if I really want to enjoy this new toy. Plus I have thinned my herd and am trying to focus on stocking up on ammo as an investment. I guess it's time for me to explore that option. Thanks for the input guys. You just reaffirmed what I sorta already knew but didn't want to face.
I can't imagine feeding my 500 S&W without reloading, it almost makes it "cheap" to shoot compared to factory ammo. My favourite plinking bullet is the Berry's plated 350 grain, one of the cheaper options for bullets and they can withstand velocities up to 2000 fps according to their web site.
I've put over 3000 rounds through mine so far and even at $2 a round that's $6000 vs the roughly $900 (roughly $2000 using berry's bullets + powder and primer) I've spent for components. Add another $500 for a really nice reloading setup and your still ahead by a long shot.

After getting hosed on two boxes of 350 grain Hornady XTP bullets I quickly realized its a caliber born for casting your own and reloading. I cast Lee 440 grain slugs, gas check them, resize, lube and load them up using a Lee hand press. Fun to make and fun to shoot.
