Who's Tagged Out So Far This Fall?

rifle 125 7/8 on left, muzzle 133 5\8 on right B&C scores, without deductions
the narrower one scores higher as the tines are longer and thicker mass
15 and 17 1/2 inch inside spreads
both 9 pointers, not too bad of a year

Got one elk October 1, that filled up two deep freezes, so it freed me up to hunt ducks and geese the rest of the season.

I got a nice big doe a week ago Sunday morning. I shot from across a soybean field while she and three other does were feeding on the beans left behind by the combine.

I shot a moose. Now I don't need to or feel like shooing a deer. The last season that I did not shoot a deer was 12 years ago.
I have been out though, and so far every day I have at least one 140 class buck in the scope and I don't bother to shoot.

Got a nice fat young doe on Saturday, with the help of a good buddy who spotted her through the bush. I must have pushed her just ahead of us as I was zigging across the trail. She stared at us from 75 yards, the 6.5 Swede went through the lungs, and she dropped dead 50 paces from where she stood. It always surprises me how deer can run off with such a mortal wound. Put a pretty big hole on the far side.

It's interesting that you mention how serious of a wound a deer can take and stay on its feet. The doe that I shot took a 140 grain Nolser Partition through the ribs and into the lungs and appeared not to have been hit. The sound of the rifle startled her and the other does but they stayed in the same basic area. My second shot hit a vertabrae and dropped the doe like a sack of potatoes.

Field dressing revealed a body cavity filled with blood from the first shot and the bullet did not exit but it did make it to the offside. While it was a long shot at a laser ranged 381 yards I'm still surprised that the doe took that shot with no visible sign of injury.

Because of my work schedule, I was only able to hunt one full day which was Saturday. It was also the last day of the season. I shot a spike horn buck overlooking a field at 5:15pm. The season ended at 5:24pm

The shot was angled broadside with a Nosler AB from a 257 Roberts at 100 yds hitting the heart and lung. Deer ran about 50yds and folded.

Had stir fried tenderloins tonight.:)
