Why 129gr. 6.5mm Bullets?

what happens when a lead filled bullet sheds 30-70% of it's weight , it slows down and stops chewing it's way through the animal .

bullets like the barnes bullet not only keep most of it's weight , but also expand and keep it mushroomed size much much longer allowing a much lighter bullet by weight to do far more damage than a heavier lead filled bullet .
 
Yes the Barnes X would do that, I had a brain fart and thought we were discussing 129-140 jacketed.My FU.........I have two of the early 140gr .270 Barnes X bullets,one perfect petal mushroom and the other unexpanded like a FMJ after traveling lengthways through a 7x7 mulie.I talked to Randy Barnes and in all fairness he admitted to problems with jacket hardness but that was addressed shortly thereafter..........still like the 156-160 though.........old school I guess.........Harold

I usually trim all around the bullet hole.No lead..............Never got great accuracy from Barnes X .Some guns like them some don't and they're too dammed expensive.I'm looking at going into cast for most of my deer + bear hunting as I can dictate the range to 100 yards or less.Or my .54 TC Renegade with a ball......................Harold

The blood lead levels were compared with a control group (n=21), which consisted of voluntary blood donors from the same region. Analysis of variance, adjusted for age, did not reveal a significant difference between the two populations (p=0.89). Thus, it was concluded that frequent consumption of wild game meat has no significant effect on blood lead levels.

Yet the FDA will not certify game meat for retail consumption as safe due to lead levels in the meat.

And everyone can do what they want but personally I'm no taking chances with my family's health.

How long have we been hunting game animals with lead bullets and how much problems have we had with lead contamination.......

My Grandfather is still upright after a steady diet of "lead framented moose" .

Werent' we talking about 129gr. 6.5mm bullets ?

funny how it can go feom 129 grain bullets to moose fighting back by poisoning hunters with their very own lead :D
 
I think Hornady makes 129 gr 6.5 bullets for the same reason the make 154 gr 7mm bullets.

Just to be different. I shot them alot in 260 remingtons at targets, the shot to the same POI as 125 gr Partitions at half the cost.
