Why are .25 and.32 calibers prohibited??

For no good reason...

Its about thinning the guns that are out there. "They" drew a line and those are the guns that were prohibed. Same with the 4" barrel regs.

There is no logic behind it. The long term goal for "them" is to get rid of all guns.

it's not a good reason, but a PERCEPTION- those SATURDAY NIGHT SPECIALS come in 25 and 32, and that's the reasoning- however, the government , in its infinite wisdom, decided ALL 25s and 32s were bad, not just the acps- there is an exception for the 32s that are used for OLYMPIC eventsand target shooting

My understating is that they were banned for the same reason that anything with less than a 4" barrel was, because most of the .25 and .32 cal handguns were of the smaller "concealable" variety.

Because it makes an entire type of handgun illegal to own. Nothing whatever to do with concealing. Try concealing a 4" M29, 629 or 625.
The Socialist F**ks said it was because they were the favourites of criminals. Those twits equate calibre size with their manhood. They wouldn't be caught dead with either.

Because the creation of 12(6) would lead to the eventual elimination of about 60% of the pistols registered at the time.

I believe there were ALOT of pistols owned in Canada that were in .25 and .32 and/or under a 4" barrel (I also think they were not very expensive to buy?)....they were trying to ban as many pistols as possible with one move.

It was a pot of BS. The only real reason they were banned was to get us used to banning large classifications of firearms with the stroke of a pen. Next would be semi-autos, slide or pump action, 9mm, .38, etc.

Way to open wounds buddy, way to open wounds *shakes head*. Most gun owners here in Canada are frustrated with the misunderstanding and lack of knowledge of law makers.

Quite often, those who know the least about a topic are the ones who tell others how to live their lives. :(

Cheers,
Sand

Because

Many years ago I watched the hearings -

The red haired BLOC seperatist ##### politician was an airhead and didnt understand the difference between Olympic target pistols and saturday night specials -

She refused to listen to the retired RCMP S/Sgt. and shooting sports rep.-

Hmm, that reasoning is just as sensible as prohibiting something like the FAL for looking too "scary", that one is another real kick in the bean bag, I'm sure no one on this forum would love to be the proud owner of a CANADIAN made FAL right??(insert sarcasm here) Ok. next question: Where can I join a group/become a member somewhere that will lobby to protect our right to own firearms, my PAL/RPAL course is not until Aug. and I'd like for at least some of them to not be prohibited by the time I am legally allowed to possess them:)

The Where part of your question is in the USA and join the NRA. They are the ones with the real power and the constitution on their side, along with some recent Supreme Court wins. In Canada, you can flip a coin and join either the NFA or CSSA, both are about the same in reality. Problem with them is they have differing views which can sometimes put them at odds with each other. Perhaps join both if you can afford. In Ontario, it is mandatory at some clubs to join the CSSA whether you want to or not (not sure about other provinces). I am not sure if there are clubs out west where NFA membership is mandatory.

The second part I bolded from your question, I would hurry up and get on that if I were you, move that course up until last week if you can just to be on the safe side. New firearms are being prohibited all the time, just read the boards here and you'll see what's coming next.

Welcome to the battle.

Once upon a time, there was a #### load of Browning designed .25 & .32acps, kicking around. Most of these were considered by "them" to be night-stand guns. Now your gramma can't have one for protection. Now she needs a safe in the bedroom and a Ruger mk1, or similar.

The way I heard it was the .25's were supposedly easy to make zip guns out of with 1/4" steel tube. Someone also told me that supposedly some high enough ranking politico got shot in the azz with a .32 and went on a banning rampage over it. Truth probably is the gov found it to be an easy way of getting the majority of handguns prohibited.

Because the people in power, and the Cukier crowd wouldn't want a woman who could fend off a would be rapist with a nice concealable weapon that fits in the smallest of purses.

They want WOMEN to be victims, so that when guns are actually used by the criminal element, it becomes logical that only criminals could want a handgun.

Well the first option of going to the States is feasible as I can get duel citizenship(My Dad is an American, but has lived in Canada as a landed immigrant for 35+ years), I much prefer the very low population density that we as Canadians get to enjoy, and don't anticipate ever moving to the U.S.(Alaska being the one and only state that I'd consider). Sounds like Canada needs gun supporters more than the U.S. anyway. I will be looking in to both the NFA and CSSA in next coming days to see which group suits me best(maybe both). What kind of fee is associated with joining either of those two? Annual fee I'd assume? As to your last paragraph, don't think I wouldn't move those course dates up if I could, unfortunately I live in a fairly small community and there is only one place in town that offers the courses and the next one is not until August some time:( Even worse is that they charge $120 for both the PAL and RPAL, so $240 for both, seems way more expensive than what most people pay, but the next closest town that offers them is 1.75 hours away(I inquired there anyway and was told that the 2 courses would run over portions of three weekends, so that effectively ruled that out as I'm not willing to drive there and back three weekends in a row, though I did briefly contemplate it).

alot of US states used to have laws banning 'saturday night specials'. it has nothing to do with concealability, it has to do with the fact they are cheap. The US states enacted alot of these 'jim crow' laws to keep arms from poor people (blacks mostly), our canadian politicians followed suit way later in the game at the urging of gun control groups.
