Why are franken-pinned mags renumbered?

Is there any legal reason why they renumber the mags on the side after franken-pinning? Myself if we have to live with that type of pinning,I'd just as soon they did not renumber them also. Enough of the original number is left to tell what it was on the examples I have. Would look better too.

re-numbered to match the rifle I suppose,no numbering would be better...

They follow the old rule every major part should have a number. USSR rules. Look at every part when you take SKS apart, All numbered.
