Why are lever action .410s only 2.5

I'm wondering why lever action offerings in .410 from Marlin and Henry are all limited to 2.5 inch hulls?

Secondly, would it be possible to ream the chamber that last bit, or is the barrel profile too narrow, or the action too short to cycle them?

Not well versed in .410, but I'd be more interested in something that could cycle the larger loads.

Probably the overall length of the cartridge is the limiting factor for working through the action.
If the chamber were lengthened, maybe the guns could be used as single shots with 3" rounds.

Basically if say Henry were to produce a three inch 410 lever they would have manufacture a new longer reciever/action to do so instead of adapting one of their current actions for it.For a business it makes more sense to use a current made action as one has to
balance out cost of design and production of the new action compared to consumer demand.Currently all Henry has to do is use their 45/70 action and put the 410 barrel on it (same barrel they use on the 45/70 but bored and chambered for 410) and they have a 410 lever with a couple of minor adjustments.Like anything consumer demand drives everything and cost cutting measures makes sense for any company

You could likely chamber and fire the 3 inch rounds single shot if the chamber was lengthened but I doubt that you could eject the fired round since shotgun shells grow longer after they are fired.
