I been trying to find something that doesnt look like a real gun for knocking cans over. but for the life of me....

why is this not a desirable trait in todays climate?

I mean, for air pistols, form generally follows function. They usually don't look like firearms in part because they can't - the dimensions of a firearm wouldn't provide enough room for the powerplant/pump/compressed air reservoir, and diabolo pellets won't stack neatly in a stick magazine, hence why replica pellet pistols are almost invariably CO2 powered and are internally revolvers, or have fairly weak mainsprings.

Besides, a large market for BB guns are people who can't or don't want to own the actual firearm and the hassle of finding a range, ammo, etc and the round BBs and CO2 powerlets let them fit into forms similar to normal pistols. Even your examples look very firearm-like, aside from the Webley overlever, and I'm fairly certain that's a pellet gun. The Daisy and Crosman both look fairly similar to a High Standard .22 pistol

If you're looking for novelty, the Umarex DX17 operating system looks fairly neat, but it still looks like a modern service pistol (and reviews seem to show it as being low powered - as expected given the limits on the mainspring, and inaccurate - as expected given the short smoothbore barrel)
