Why are there no major Canadian hunting rifle brands?

Firearm manufacturer history / firearm market is not my strong suit. Looking for a new gun for the coming season, and trying to avoid anything Yankee like the plague (given their current attitude towards our country). I knew the US is a dominant player in the firearms market, but really had no idea, until trying to find a non - US brand, there isn't a ton out there. Given the size of our country, and the amount that Canadian's hunt, I'm a bit shocked that we haven't managed some home grown hunting rifle options for the market. Would love to hear why that is.

I don’t know how much you want to spend, but you can get a custom rifle made with almost all canadian parts pretty easily. There’s 3 or 4 action manufacturers, at least that many barrel manufacturers and probably the same for chassis amd stock. Every one of them has a pretty solid reputation too

There is..

Will probably spend twice the money on it as usual anything Canadian... rip off..

Victory Ridge Sports/Maple Ridge Armory makes a straight pull 'AR' that's NR so it's good for hunting.

Savage is/was supposed to be expanding centrefire production to their Canadian plant as well. Not sure if/when that's still happening. Even if they're not currently made in Canada; Savage is invested in Canada.

ya I'm window shopping right now for a hunting rifle build.
Canadian made action options are out there but everything seems to be in the 1500 + range for a receiver/bolt combo.
There is a few rem 700 actions with trigger and bolt in between 1000 and 1200
Then there is the Mcabee NRR .308 and the MRA Maverick and receiver sets are out there for 800 to a hair over 1000 but Victory Ridge/MRA is out of stock on receiver sets. They list a complete rifle for around 1600 I think....?
Currently looking at the Aero action with .308 bolt face as an "affordable" starting point but might just end up grabbing a rem 700 assembly
