I bought a Pietta 1873 model 22lr revolver that shoots 6 inches low at 7 metres. After browsing the web, I see that there are tons of complaints stating the same issues. Why would a retailer want to sell people a product of this poor quality. I think a gun is supposed to shoot something and sights are supposed to help you do that. The sights are fixed. Help me understand this?

Everyone sees/shoots "Cowboy" fixed sight revolvers differently. Try gradually filing down the front sight post….

I agree with this comment.
If the gun is shooting low then either the rear sight needs to be raised or the front sight lowered.
Some companies sell guns with a very high front sight to allow the owner to remove some material
to adjust the point of impact.( it is a lot easier to lower the front sight than to raise it )

So either grab a file and experiment or change your aiming point.

I've been taught that cowboy action SA revolvers are POB (point of beltbuckle{balls} :p) They normally shoot high, not low. You've got quite a bit of filling ahead of you. Has anyone else shot the gun to confirm its POA?

Yes, I had one of our best shooters use it...he too said to file the front sight. If I do file it, by increments to adjust as needed, how do I blacken the sight again when completely finished?

What do you mean..no problem then?

Pietta's seem to be a quality piece, but they are period correct. Thus, fixed sights. Just use Kentucky Windage, allow for POI to POA before you pull the trigger.
Either that or buy the die makers file set and adjust the front sight yourself. Of course, it'll be ' out to lunch ' as soon as you switch ammunition brands ( and profiles; faster or slower, etc ).
Not trolling or p*ssing on your shoe; but if you want fully adjustable sights, you should have purchased a target pistol.
You bought a cowboy gun, how do you suppose the turn of the century cowhand would have dealt with it? Hold high...then squeeze.

Moving up to Ruger Vaquero solved a lot of problems, better quality firearm on all counts... JP.

Vaquero's in .22lr now? ....cool....

NAA.

They keep selling them because a lot of their buyers aren't clueless.

I say forget about the sights and point it like your finger.

You'll be shootin the heads offa rattle snakes in no time.
