Why did the 25-35 fail?

In the 1970's I did a lot of work on Prince of Wales Island. I remember at a land point in a bay I found more then 50 25-35 casings.
On questioning some folks from Somerset island ( oudla family) they told me that the point was a landing for caribou crossing over the ice in winter from Somerset. Old man Oudla used to have a 25-35 popular he claimed for their caribou hunting decades before the 1970's.
Most Peary caribou are 130 pounds or less on the hoof and often shot at 100 yards or less.
Polar bears cornered by dogs on top of a piece of ice are shot in the head. The 25-35 was good enough but quickly abandoned when more powerful cartridges appeared.
