With the spring bear hunt quickly approaching in most parts of the country, I was curious. Those of you who do hunt "Ursus" in the spring what is your motivation? Do you hunt bear for the meat? The fur? Trophy skulls? I've found that I love running my baits every spring and sitting on stand but I'm not that keen on actually shooting another bear, so I guess for me the motivation is the actual hunt itself.

ok you can bait ill come and shoot the bear :D I fined the meat is beter less fat . The fur is silky knot as wooly if your looking for a rug

I am like you Big Game, I just want to get out of the house and in the bush. I call myself a bear watcher.

It's not that I don't like bear meat, I do, but I'm the only one in my household that will eat it. I won't go through a whole bear myself and I have three rugged already. I like studying them and working on my baiting techniquesbut unless it was abig color phase or something exceptional I'm just as happy to watch. Last year I had two kids shoot their first bears of my stand, that was AWESOME!

Mainly I just love to get out in the woods this time of year. Following that the fur is at it's best and the meat is not greasy.

This year I'm going to take a couple of guys out for their first bruins and that will be enjoyable.

For me at this point, unless it's got a great big pumpkin head on it I'm probably going to just watch it.

Same as you guys gets me out and I usually see lots of bears. I take one for sausage and burger every year. Its almost guaranteed meat in the freezer for me so it takes some pressure of the fall hunt should it not go as planned LOL.. Helps me loose my "winter" fat too...

If you don't get your moose in the fall - spring bear is a great way to fill the freezer for the year. It's pretty tasty if cooked right.

I like to hunt bears...It's fun, it's low pressure since there are always lots to look at..Good excuse to get out in the bush and have fun.

Also, it's fun to try out some new guns/loads on bears before the fall.:)

I love the spring bear hunt for the whole experiece; several days on a remote river, lots of wildlife, hanging with family, and watching lots of bears. Sometimes I take one and sometimes I don't, it's not the whole point. I do miss bear smokies when I decide to not shoot one though.

because it is fun to hunt. (hunting does not mean killing)
make some money as guide, be in camp with the girls...
all spot & stalk for us; no stinkig garbage or tree stand.
if you can't meet 'em eye-to-eye, stay home!

Just the hunt. May is a beautiful time of year to put up a wall tent. Spring bear hunting is very civilised. get up at 10 AM, mosey out into the bush or stand by 3 or 4 PM. Don't hardly ever see bears before 5 PM. Shooting light 'til 9-10 PM.

Gotta love that! I feel bad for the hunters in Ontario, I would miss it if I lived there.
