Why do we hide from the anti's

I completely disagree.

It's hiding that has got us the FIrearms Act and other bull#### gunlaws.

Make somethign normal, and people accept it.

Hide it away, make it a secret, and you will screw yourself.

Well, that's an odd revelation, Gatehouse, as much as I respect your every word on this site. (And I do!)
I think hunters never hid a damn thing and then got smacked in the face with the goofy C.39 about 10 years ago. Correct me if I'm wrong. There was some political pressure (from city-folk morons) to put the hammer down on all those "rednecks" running amok with guns so as to sway the apathetic and uninformed voters. We don't live in the fantasy world you guys would like to imagine we do. The vote doesn't (and didn't) include hunters, and never will. I'm not saying I disagree with anybody's ideals, here, since I think we're all in the same boat, but we need to play the "nicey-nicey" game in order to be accepted by all the nerds who think we should stop doing what we're doing. I'm in Ontario where black bears are killing people and deer are everwhere! But there are strict regs for hunting these varmints. Hummm!!!
Guys, I agree with all of your sentiments, but my personal feeling is that we can only do ourselves good by not scaring the crap out of our Lib neighbours by driving home with a doe bleeding all over the place in the back of our pickup or strapped to the front of my Jeep...
The world is much changed.

I think we need to win over the majority of the populace that is ambivalent, not by hiding or practicing shock tactics.
I would rather use intelligent discourse, familiarity and to be "seen" as responsible law-abiding citizens, you can't be seen if your hiding. :?

I think sometimes hiding animals in vehicles may be a wee difficult at times. But at the same time, I usually tend to avoid at all probable cause when unloading guns from my vehicle into house, that I would rather not advertise the fact that there are guns in my basement!

Where I live, the majority are liberals but I never hide. Funny enough, more than a few suburban housewives stoped their cars or came up while taking a walk with their kids to take a look. They congratulate us and often they ask if their kids can pet the deer. Of course, they are always welcomed. I have never had an anti come up or say anything...I would welcome the chance to educate him/her with a good logic and arguments. :)

Because gun owners are mostly conservative regular folk, while anti's are mostly confrontational a$$holes.
I used to get into discussions with a number of these folks at my Parish at after-service coffee/meet & greets when they learned I hunt and participate in shooting sports.
When I politely disagreed with them and marveled at their naivete on matters involving hunting, shooting, firearms and their use in general, it shook a few of them up.
Now, they have seen me on local TV, particpating in CAS as the Cold Lake Kid, with family groups, including the children, joining in.
They seem to get quite a kick out of it, making a point of telling me they saw the segment and remarking they thought it looked like a lot of fun.

Well the suburban voters in Ontario will be quick to call in those able to deal with the varmints, animals when they overrun their property, farm, garden etc... Just build bridges. One at a time. I say there's a gender/age disparity that must be addressed.
As per their "naivete on matters involving hunting, shooting, firearms and their use in general, it shook a few of them up. "
Listen & Communicate. Educate & make people aware. Its the only way to make a difference. :)

There is a large moose rack prominently displayed on my balcony :)

I try not to be offensive - like a deer head tied to the front bumper with the tounge flopping whilst parked on the ferry :) but i make no secret of being a hunter or having game on board.

In the late sixties early seventies the trend towards 'low vis' gun ownership and hunting gained steam. the idea being if we don't stuff it in others faces, they'll not bug us. (or steal our guns or valdalize our cars etc). but that plan has backfired.

I think we need to be visible. We need to be noticed, as often as possible. We don't need to be crude or crass, or insensitive to some people's squeamshness by sticking the head on our hood orniment to get a reaction - but i think that we do need to have people say 'look, there goes another hunter - those guys are everywhere'.

I don't need to hide the fact I am a hunter I just go about my business as usual. If I am in my hunting gear and need something in a store I go buy it. If I shoot something I throw it in the back of my truck and bring it home. If someone sticks their nose into my business and has a problem with it the problem is theirs not mine. I am not ashamed of the fact I am a hunter and the elk rack on my veranda makes that statement.
These anti hunters are all gung ho to shut down the hunting season and quit killing the animals until the bear shows up in their back yard. Then they turn from an anti to a nimby.

I never hide BUT I do take my oranges off when I am in my truck
They are like a red flag to game officers
I used to leave them on and i would get stopped quite often but since i started taking them off I haven't seen a warden been a few years now :D
I agree 100% though hiding just leads to more scrutiny

No hiding here.

People I go to school with and work part-time with expect to see pictures when I get back from a hunting trip. There are the usual people that say 'that's sick' or 'you don't need to hunt when you can buy meat at the grocery store'...but, I take the high road and actually have a lengthy conversation with them regarding the outdoors, wildlife, conservation, tradition, etc...

...that works...sometimes...

...other times I just ask the tree-hugging, bunny-kissing, deer-cooing loudmouths how much of their hard-earned money THEY put towards conservation...

...then I show them my wallet full of conservation group membership cards and let them know how much money and volunteer time I spend each year on keeping the nature they hold so dear to their hearts beautiful for them...

...that shuts'em up.
