Why does my 10/22 barrel need to warm up?

I believe mine, which uses a heavy Green Mountain barrel, also shoots tighter groups warmed up. So did my heavy barrel Lakefield 91B. Unless its just my shooting gets better after a few rounds????

Normal. My first 5 shot string at 75 yards with my CZ452 Varmint is 1.25inches.

Second String 1.05"

Third string .877"

and .877 improves the more it is shot, right up to .670" at 75 yards when 'warm'

Other rimfires I have had seem to behave the same way when ambient temperatures are below 70F

Practice Effect? On the other hand, Olympic free pistol used to allow "fouling shots" before the match began, and I understand that it is still allowed in smallbore competitions to dump a couple into the backstop before shooting for score.
Maybe it just doesn't like to be clean?

My Savage BTVS always puts the first cold barrel shot high and to the left. The second one gets closer to POA and the third is usually right on. Just to be on the safe side I always fire 5 to 10 warm up rounds before shooting for score. Once warm it's extremely accurate. The cold barrel effect makes no difference for target shooting, but I can see it might be an issue for hunting.

I was just noticing this with my Savage MKIIFV on the weekend. It was hard to say though because I was changing variables and it was super windy. It's not like I have a problem with shooting 1.5" groups from 50 meters for the first 10 shots... I'm just interested why it goes down to .75" after that.
