Why does Westrifle require DOB and City of birth for standard purchases?

My question to the OP is;

Why didn't you inquire about this privately via pm or email?
Instead, now sergy96 feels he has to defend his business practices in an attempt to keep his good standing image intact, while wolves circle and dissect his every touch of the keyboard.

+1.

I thought I did, by posting in the Westrifle website.
It was a simple question, if it's a website error, the answer should have been just as simple.

Please read my post, I did not expect a witch hunt, I intervened when I found out, see below in bold.
I'm the OP.
I appreciate everyone's comments and respect everyone's opinion, however......................
This may just be a programming error on the website, something that Westrifle may not even be aware of.
I would like to suggest we wait for Westrifle to check it out and get back to us with an explanation.

My original post was not meant to crucify, or "shut them down" as some have said, it was just a concern.
I will shop at Westrifle once they fix that small detail on their website.

Let's have some patience and give a supporting retailer time to appreciate the problem, the concerns, and make it right.

Thanking all.............

The part that puzzles me is that Westrifle answered twice, telling me about procedures for purchases requiring a PAL.
The asked me to enter an invalid PAL number.................
Not a single word in regards to my original question.

I will now stop posting in this thread, as some have mentioned it is now becoming a headache for Westrifle.

Don't see a need for a lot of rag chewing here.
The seller owns the property and as long as he operates within the law has the right to set the conditions of sale.
We have the advantage as buyers if we don't like the conditions of sale then we can take our business elsewhere.
If a store clerk asks me for personal information to buy a magazine or clip for a gun I will ask to speak to his supervisor and if the boss persists in that requirement I will politely leave find a magazine elsewhere.
Your best counterargument in these situations is keeping your wallet in your pocket.
When the business sees that bad customer relations policy is having an effect on the bottom line they become a lot more reasonable and respectful.

Westrifle is a great vendor. They don't deserve to have this tempest-in-a-teapot harm their sales.

When an SVT I bought from them was snapped by CanPost they drove a replacement out to my house. When I bought my '34 Mosin they drove it out to my home b/c of the prior SVT issue. I'll continue to buy from their website.

The customer is always right.
We're the customers.
We don't need the sellers support for our livelyhood but the seller needs our support for his livelyhood.
Don't argue, just walk out the door.
Let your wallet do the talking.

Cet you can always call in or email us your order. I also offer to send me your phone number by email ( master@westrifle.com ) and I will call you. As to DOB I only need it when I have to verify your PAL. It is fairly easy answer to your question. Majority of firearms established businesses ask for that info. As some people pointed out if you don't intend to buy firearms or ammunition you can put place of birth Abuja, Nigeria and birthday October 1, 1960.
I will not change requirements on the web because it will complicate lots of things. I had it before. I sell anywhere from 50 to 180 firearms and ammunition daily and 5-10 orders of only accessories. You must view things from my point of view. If you don't want your info on the web then do a phone in order. I have a lot of customers who want to take extra step in protecting their info.

Thank you Sergey96.

The problem is solved, I will make that phone call.

Thank you CGN members for your opinions and recomendations.

Here is what I find funny about this and other threads that are similar in nature (re: invasion of privacy; ID Theft etc)

Lets assume a non-PAL related purchase:

The buyer is willing to provide plenty of information about him/herself to start with (Name, address, phone, email) as well as Credit card information which I will assume includes CC #, expiry, and CVV # on card back. If I was in the ID theft racket, I now have all I need. I don't need your PAL and DOB to take you to the cleaners. And you willing send all this via email (and/or via phone)

My thinking is "I either trust this vendor or I don't" I either believe they and their employees will protect my confidential information or they wont. If I think they will, I supply it and buy. If not, then I don't. Simple as that.

But there is no need to get all hot and bothered and start threads about vendors because if my (or your) paranoia.
