People tell me it is sub-standard. I have had it for 9 years and thought it was great as a range gun, not a hunter. What's wrong with it??:runaway:

There is nothing wrong with it. You even said that it was a great range gun:D Should not listen to those "people" :shotgun: :dancingbanana:

Not sure what the deal is. I have been looking at them. I was told by a guy that knows his stuff to get the 870. Much better gun for the money in his opinion. I have shot about 500 rounds through a 870 marine and like it. I have not had a chance to shoot the same through a winchester or a mossberg for that matter. If it works for you screw everyone else that tells you otherwise.

Its a preference thing. Actually I prefer the 870, but I would never call the 1300 Winchester "sub-standard"

I get a lot of BS about my winchester 1300 Defender as well. It seems nothing lives up to the reputation of the 870.

Except for the fixed bore on my 1300, I can't think of a reason to get rid of it.

870's are cool if you want to pimp it out or shoot 3 gun, but otherwise it's just a good quality cheap shotgun. However, they don't come in stainless!

I have seen a 870 in stainless version, but it was Ăśber expensive IMHO.
(Granlunds in Campbell river has it).

With the Winny I'd only add a side saddle ammo carrier, and one of them clip on glow beads (many of the new ones came with the glow bead).

They do come in stainless, but they are not as cheap:D

If your looking for cheap try a Maverick 88! Oops I meant to say inexpensive:evil:

Yes they do, 870 marine magnum.well kinda.. nickel plated. I like it better then stainless. They are expensive lil buggers though

i didnt think they made a stainless 870, i thought it was only the nickel plated one.

Correct. It is the Marine Magnum and it had the silvery "electroless nickel" finish on it. Newest production ones apparently have the same finish underneath a "painted on" black coating.

Now back on topic... Don't fret about your Winnie. I had one which was actually my first shotgun. It was a full wood stocked Defender model and was a pleasure to shoot. The action was slick, and it was pretty fast handling due to the lighter aluminum receiver. Unfortunately, I sold it off in a moment of weakness... Since then, I've had some trigger time behind an 870P. Although the Remingtons seem to be built to withstand "harder use" (ie. with the steel receiver, etc...), I still wouldn't hesitate to pick another Winchester up....

hsld.

The ONLY problem with a 1300 is because it cannot be had with a 14" barrel.
Otherwise, I would keep mine!!!:(
