Why doesn't anyone talk about Sako TRG-22s anymore?

You don't hear a lot about the TRGs these days. Just wondering if there are more modern / better rifles out there or if you can simply build a better more accurate rifle for the same price?

I've always liked the TRGs and everyone once and a while I sell a rifle to try something new. On paper and in reviews the TRGs seem like excellent rifles. That combined with my very high esteem for Tikka products (I have the "poor man's TRG - the T3 Sporter) makes me wonder if a TRG could be my next toy.

What do y'all think?

PS, I know the Coyote will come up and yes I think they are awesome but they appear to be quite a bit more expensive than the TRG.

I guess many peoples did like me, i bought one many years ago when i started precision shooting and after that it end up as a safequeen, i keep it, clean it once a year, did not shoot it in the last 10 years, new rifles come along, shooting is like a big wheel, always something new to replace other stuff... JP.

Words of wisdom.

because everyone is shooting a 338lm TRG42, and I wish that I built a 338lm instead of a 308 AICS..... because my 308 sucks past 700 meters in the wind, and is unpredictable because of transsonic transition.

But my 308 is so cheap to shoot that I can shoot the plate twice as much for the same price.... eh.

The reason there is not alot of talk about TRG's or even AI's for that matter, is that very few people here have them. Check out Snipershide, tons of info on them there.

I dont think they're any less popular than before. Like J996 said, they cost a lot so fewer people have them. You'll get 20 threads started about Savage or Remington builds for every 1 thread about a TRG or AI etc.

there is no need to "build" a TRG so it can shoot hence why you don't see someone posting builds for them.

I don't post about my TRG because I don't have anything to say about it. I think it's an amazing rifle and rugged as hell, but really what is there to talk about that people don't know or hasn't been said to death already about it.

Awesome rifle, love it, would buy it again in a heart beat.

I think once you get into the TRG/AI/PGW levels of rifle then it's more about the skill of the shooter. The shooter is more likely to drop a 1/2 MOA then any of these rifles will.

PS with the trg muzzle break recoil is a joke.

The Sako TRG is just a boring rifle to shoot. They are always sub 1/2 moa(all of them!), there are never any problems with functioning, they don't break down, very few people modify them because there is no real way to make it better, the trigger is arguably the best in the industry, they also make probably the best bipod around and the design and engineering that went into the rifle are virtually perfect in both function and form.

The only complaint you seem to hear about them is that the accessories are expensive, oh well.

I have owned 2 TRG 22s, a TRG 21 and a TRG 42 so I have a fair amount of experience behind the rifle.

True about how expensive the accessorys are, i dont recalled what i paid then but for 6 X10 rounds mags and one bipod in today's dollars, it would be well over 2K, kind of silly... JP.

Been shooting Fclass for 8 years now and have competed in a lot of Matches ,see a lot of guys and gals bring out their TRG's with expensive glass on them to matches but I have never seen anyone win a match with a TRG, even experienced competitors shooting them can't match a Rem 700 with a match barrel screwed on it , and at half the cost of a TRG, They are cool looking rigs but for the cost of a fully equiped TRG, I think you are better of to build a custom.

I think I fall in with the custom 700 crowd on this one.

Depending on what you do it it 700's can be 1/2 moa guns all day long. And im positive it can be done for less than the $4000-5000 price tag of a TRG.

Dont have to go very far a Sig SSG-3000 will shoot of the bat .5 MOA with quality factory ammo at 1800.00 all in... Just saying... JP.

They cost the same or more than my full customs but simply can't match the accuracy of a full custom( which has been smithed properly of course).
