the relatively small bush that i hunt is an awesome place because theres so much wildlife in a small area. ducks, geese, squirell, rabbit, coon, crow, possum, coyote, deer, turkey, jack rabbit, grouse and pheasant all inhabit the area so its common to have a mixed bag at the end of the day.

on this particular day i got 2 mallards, 4 wood ducks and 3 squirells. not bad for a couple hour walk to scout for deer. i absolutly love sneakin up to the ponds cuz ya never know if theres 1 duck, flock of geese or nothing...

these pics were from a month ago but i figured id post cuz everyone likes pics:D

this has to be the healthiest squirell i have ever saw. super thick coat in perfect condition and a perfect tail too.

So this may be a stupid question but it's truly because I don't know...

What does one do with a squirrel? I always see a buttload of them but never shoot them because I don't know of anything they're good for.

fry em up!:D

they taste the same as rabbit and are very good shake n bake coated and deep fried on lower heat. squirell burgers are amazing....

I find rabbit to be pretty gamey tasting so I'm not sure I'd like squirrel. Interesting thought though, especially since I love shake n' bake!

Wouldn't they be a pain in the butt to skin and get the meat off of them?

No. You find HARE to be gamey tasting. Snowshoes and Jacks are definitely stronger than cottontails and squirrels. Ate my first cottontails this year and there is absolutley NO comparison to the Snowshoe Hares I've been snaring and shooting for 30 years. Rabbit is very mild, much like the dark meat on a pheasant leg. Hare is stronger and requires bolder spices and marinades to stand up to it.

chances are whoever cooked it dunno how to cook:p

i can skin/gut a squirell in a few minutes and then ya just quarter them and cook like that or leave em whole and roast them. it is a pain to debone all of the meat when your doing 5 or more but its definatly worth it. best burgers ive ever had actually. just remember to grind bacon with the squirell or it will be too dry.

What kind of dog is that? It made me think Lab, N.S. Duck tolling retriever cross. Which may be a real interesting cross. I have a Lab, Springer spaniel cross than loves to hunt birds with me.

Thanks for the pics. Sounds like you have a wonderland to hunt in.

the owners of the mother werent sure which dog knocked her up but they figured it was a collie that lived next door. so lab x collie and who knows what else cuz the mother was labx with something.;)

definatly a smart dog that required no training at all for hunting...
