Just wondering why people want to pay more for an SKS - D? I heard they are less reliable. I find with the stripper clips you can load just as fast as a mag and when you have a box of surplus ammo you basically have 224 loaded magazines to plink away with at the range.

I have both. I actually prefer the regular sks, but the D does have the "look cool" factor with the big ak mag sticking out of it. I've only shot a few hundred through the D, but no misfires or problems. I think it's just as reliable.

The D is worth more because there are far fewer of them in canada. And as far as we can tell right now, there aren't any more being made. So if you want an sks that takes ak mags, you gotta pay a bit more.

I agree with you that the stripper clips are nice. Especially since most surplus ammo comes preloaded on the strips.

They aren't made any more, that's the biggest factor. The AK mag thing is also right up there.

I remember when they were giving them away at the local grain elevator.

mine is reliable , i pay more cos i know i will fook it up if i made it myself . lots of people have tried and ended up with crap .

an sks that takes ak mags is the SKK if im not mistaken ? we have them here by the truckload.. or is SKS-D a clever designation so that they dont become prohib ?

We have two basic SKS types (ignoring the national varieties). The basic Simonov hinged magazine type, and the detachable magazine type. The latter is sold and registered here as the SKS-D. Never heard one called an SKK.

Had one for a half-day and returned it to the mailorder store. The stock was the typical Chinese red-painted softwood, only worse than the Norinco commercial rifles.

The long handled 5 round magazine makes the SKS-D shoot and look like an AK without condeming the gun to queen status.

Sks-d or as you call it the skk, are only made in china. as far as i know the were a limited run for civilian sales ,and haven't been made in years.

ok after having a quick look around on the intertron , it looks like the SKK is a chinese manufacture, as ive found nothing relating to russian or czech or anywhere else manufactured SKK's .. only norinco

in north america , we call them SKS-D OR SKS-M , a slight variation but both do take AK mags . these are produced only by norinco , its a mod of the reg SKS . they havent made any since the USA ban on norinco import back in 1994 but thats not to say there isnt any sitting in some warehouse in china , we can only hope.
