Why Lapua Brass???

Debating methodology is one thing, but the rest of it is unnecessary. I won't post any more on it so please just keep the rest of it to yourself. That applies to both.

To me elasticity is the ability to return to its orig shape after some stress has been applied.

When brass work hardens, it becomes more rigid thus less elastic

Jerry

Sorry Jerry, that still dont make sense

Hard necks spring back too much = too hard
We anneal brass to reduce its ability to spring back
Over anealed brass does not spring back = too soft

We dont aneal the web area of the case because we dont want to soften it, because harder is better.

any questions?

Lapua brass is good but I prefer Norma

Lapua strong case web, heavier, has thicker necks. Drilled flash hole. Little overall case prep required. Arguable more firings per case. Thicker necks may require you to have them turned if using a custom chamber.

Norma ok case web, lighter then lapua, thinner necks. Drilled flash hole Little overall case prep required. Less firings then lapua. No neck turning required for custom chambers

Winchester ok case web, lighter then lapua, thinner necks, punched flash hole. Lots of case prep required. Is the cheapest and this is a plus for most.

Load testing has shown (for me) that powder levels and pressure in Norma brass are Primer popping in Lapua brass.

Norma in my opinion is Winchester with most of the prep work already done.

It comes down to availability Lapua is everywhere and premium brass hence the price. Winchester same availability but economically priced

Norma is scarce but a premium quality brass and in 308 is top dollar an unappealing idea.

Plenty of F class shooters use Winchester and like you have winters to do all the brass prep work so time is not as much of a factor.

In the end it comes down to this. Lapua is turn key brass prime and shoot, where Winchester is labour intensive but can yield similar results.

As an FYI the F Class open winner in Sacramento this year won using a 300WSM and Remington Brass. Yes Remington brass their brass is not even whispered in the same breath as the other three but time and brass prep brought them up to winning levels.

As an aside read some articles from German Salazars on brass prep to get some idea of how involved it can get.
