I don't know if this has been noted before, but it may be worth a revisit. For those of you who don't think it matters if the serial number on the bolt and action don't matter, think again. What brought this back to mind was an incident at the rifle range with a nice Pattern '14 rilfe. the guy was experiencing too many FTF, and several of us stepped up to see if we could help him solve the problem. To make a long story short, we found light strikes on the brass, and traced the problem to the fact that the bolt was just short enough that it created a headspace problem. I was given to understand that as a final step in production, many military rifles are fired with an over strength cartridge to stress the parts "into battery". It may be worth a remention that any mismatched bolt gun should be checked with the headspace gauges to ensure it's shootability. I don't know how many times I've heard it said, "but the parts are interchangeable!", and while "yes" they will fit, the question is will they fit properly. Just tought I'd put it out there for consideration.
