I am surprised that with all the 223 shooters out there that Winchester has not come out with a small action. I personally don't have a 223 but i do have a 204 and 222.

Wouldn't a little supergrade or featherweight be nice? Or can they just not compete with the Savage/scope combo for less than 500?

Winchester makes a short action don't they? Did they stop recently?
Savage Axis is only a single length long action rifle, so not sure of that comparison?

They have never had a true short action. Even when they made so-called short actions, they were more like a medium actions. 3.1 inch actions with the magazines blocked for 2.8 inch or shorter cartridges. Too bad, it would be slick.

But as already mentioned, the Kimber 84M is basically a true small M70.

Hitzy,
They don't have any current production 223's, 204's, 222's, etc.

Ok, well that's a different question! They made them for a lot of years, no idea why 22-250 is the smallest they go these days.
The new Howa mini actions look pretty slick, a true .223 length action. I always wanted an old Sako Vixen in 222 which is also based on this cartridge length.
My only current M70 is a 1975 222rem, at that time they didn't even have a short action... everything was built on their long action. Pretty massive for .222 cartridge.
