Why not a Maverick 88 for skeet?

I started with my hunting SXP pump..score was usually in the 15-17 range , then was using my friend's 1400 semi, score got a bit better 19s usually. Now I have a good O/U my score is 20s.
Use what you have or can afford, to try the game for a while before making an investment and if you do like it, save for a good quality gun.

Oddly enough I have never seen it freak out the old coots but rather it provides entertainment watching some guy get beat to death with a gun that doesn’t fit and even after many friendly offers of letting them try out some purpose designed guns that are fit adjustable and are offered to have the gun adjusted to try it, watch them continue to suffer through miss after miss with intermittent hits with their tacticool guns and take a beating like going a few rounds with Tyson because they think the old coots are freaked out. Some just don’t understand the difference between freaked out and friendly advice.

That is the part that I never understood. Some people have come to watch us shoot trap or skeet, and when offered a shotgun to use to try the clays game, many accept, and they almost always have a good time. The same with the people that show up with a gun that obviously doesn't fit them. But when a person shows up with a short barreled tactical shotgun, most refuse the offer of the use of a more suitable shotgun, even after a round or two of getting beat up and missing most targets with their tactical shotgun. One fellow ahowed up with two high priced Benelli tactical guns with holographic sights, and he missed pretty much every target at skeet, so I offered him the use of my SX-3, so he could try a round without the holographic sights, but he insisted on continuing to frustrate himself for a few more rounds before leaving, never to return.

It doesn't really matter what you shoot. If you want to learn you should be shooting everything as singles anyways.

In a perfect world only 1&7s, however, if you want to hang with buds, then you will likely get into shooting every station, even though you probably shouldn't.

If they are already shooting, and have been for a while, they likely have O/Us, so shoot their gun. You don't need to have your own.

Eye on the bird, face on the gun, more lead than you expect on 3,4,5,6.

Have fun.

I have a model 88 and i use it for skeet shooting, works good no complaints. Obviously there are better choices but I bought the gun for $250 brand new years ago, once that is factored in its a winner.

I shot skeet with a Mossberg 500 when I first started out last year. (IC choke) It worked for me with no problems. I recently upgraded to a Semi-Auto and honestly I don't think I shoot any better with it. I think the pump was more fun and I regret selling it. I'lll likely pick up another one and use both. I was looking at the Maverick 88's on sale and it's very tempting to buy one at the current price. Either that or a Mossberg 500 combo. They are only about $100 more than the Maverick.
