Hey Guyz,

Question, is it worth it to pay for a brand name stock mounting hardware kit? I know you can get a Brownell's no-name kit for about 50-60 bucks, There are some brand name kits out there (BCM, DPMS, Colt, etc.) that sell for $110 to $199... Whats the difference? Is it worth the extra doe? The parts seem pretty straight forward to me, I don't see how they could build more quality into them... Is this just another name brand cost thing???

The Buffer Tube/Recevier Extension is holding the action spring and the buffer, and when the weapon cycles the bolt carrier...

How much force do you think is excerted by a bolt carrier moving rearward?

+1....Dont cheap out on moveing parts you might pay for it with half your face ... I wonder if there is a spec for how much force to the rear the buffer can prouduce

Yeah I understand how the rifle operates... What I meant was, specifically what is the differance between the no-name brand and the leading brand name? what does the extra cost get me specifically? Perhaps between a Brownells kit and a BCM kit...

Sorry for the confusion

Metal quality as listed above with the pot metal reference. I buy Brownells parts to, but for critical areas I buy certain brands only. Its your money though.

I noticed that when using a brake on a shorty the rearward force seemed to approximately double or the the rearward buffer tube speed increased. Does this sound right to you?

It comes down to material ... pot metal stocks are junk and cant hold up to the stress. I am no expert on it but on moveing parts I dont cheap out that stock is just way to close to my face to fail

I see, that makes sense. I just never thought of it that way. You would think a tube is a tube... BCM kit it is... (I like my face)

No name stuff varies alot in quality. Some companies who sell it, it could actually be made by a leading manufacturer just under a no name label instead. Other times it can be price/cost is the lowest common denominator. Depends, so unless you know what you buying and who made it, you pay your money and take your chances. Even if its made by a leading manufacturer they can still make it to a lesser specification because of costs.

Do you know anything about the quality of BCM kits?

I guess it depends on the manufacturer...

Personnally, I'd feel confident with the Brownells no-name stuff... as I don't think Peter would associate his name/business with "cheap" stuff...

As for the difference in $, well, those fancy ads in magazine don't come cheap... so someone has to pay for it.

Same thing goes for inovation, it doesn't come cheap... so someone has to pay for it.
