Why so hard?

Is there a specific reason it is almost impossible to find a Norinco with the long barrel?

I'm trying to design a tactical Dmr and am willing to trade the extra weight and length for the added distance.
If that is the case that is. I'm completely new to this so please educate me. .

Will having the longer barrel give a higher accuracy at longer distances or is it beget to just go with the shorty?

For that matter should I go with a different bar model all together. I would like to get it up to 800 yds.

I'm looking to put a blackfeather stock on it.

Is this feasible?

If you want to have a significant increase in accuracy over a stock one, a custom barrel headspaced to the bolt is the only way to go. If you're wanting to shoot 800 yards, I would highly recommend this.

Thanks everyone for all the responses so far. Im definately getting a much clearer picture of what i didnt understand before and where i was going wrong.

So this is what I am looking at so far. Im not going to worry about distance at all for now just getting used to calculating Moa in general and working with what it will give me.

Norinco M14 18.5" barrel
Blackfeather RS stock
Magpul Miad small AR grip
Optic: Nikon Monarch 3 6-24 x 50 SF BDC
Juggernaut Tactical muzzle break

Then later I will get a barrel extension and do a custom barrel headspace.

Should be compatible to start correct?

Thanks for all the input

In a semi battle rifle, the Norc M305 is the best bang for the buck. Getting one and spending giant money trying to make it do something that is impossible ......thats not bang for the buck.

If you really want a tactical semi, start with a better platform. Going the route of spending 1000-1500 on a 500 gun is like putting a turbo, lowering kit, and fancy wheels on a 1996 Hyundai Pony.

If you haven't yet, spend some time reading the stickies at the top of this forum. Lots of good info in there. As for your upgrades, keep in mind that your barrel will need to be cut, crowned, and threaded to put that muzzle break on it. Also, make sure you invest in a decent scope mount (the NcStar ones are junk, I know first hand. I CAN vouch for the M14.ca CASM though...). And I would suggest an aftermarket oprod spring guide as a first, widely known as best bang for your buck in the accuracy increase department.

they have them in stock at marstar..

boy they sure got more expensive though.

There is much work to be done to get any real accuracy from it though...proper bedding/better stock, better gas piston, trigger job, op rod alignment, draw pressure, better spring guide and spring, gas system shimming blablabla...dosent have to be too pricey though...much can be done by you. The aftermarket barrel and headspacing will cost at least as much as the stock rifle but will make it precise as hell for a m1a/m305, from what i hear anyways. It may never compete with a bolt gun though but you get the semi auto benefits.

If you want the accuracy you have indicated, an M305 is the wrong direction for you. 2" at 900 yards (0.2 MOA) with any rifle and any round is superb accuracy...out of an M1A pattern rifle it is a unicorn dream. I've not heard of this being done with any semi-auto 308.

If you spend any time in this forum you'll get to hear about lots of Unicorn sightings. It's amazing what a shim will do.

Instead of buying a 22 inch m14 just get a aftermarket barrel and be done with it. Then you will have both if you change your mind. An M14 is not a 800 yards rifle military use them in medium range scenario 600 yards tops and since they are shooting people and not paper it is not essential to have 1 MOA. I would look at a bolt gun for 800 yards and not waste time and be frustrated with the results. If you want an M14 just use it for what its made for fun and go to an M14 clinic and just have fun. The money youll invest for it would be close to building a 1000 yards bolt gun IMO.
