I saw and handled an original Type 2 Milled receiver 1950 Izhevsk Ak-47 with the boot tang connecting the stock to the receiver which came back in a return from a discovered weapons cache on roto in Afghanistan!

Noone else even really seemed to care after I tried explaining how rare a historical piece this was with my raving gun nut enthusiasm hahaha.

The scary thing was that it seemed to be all or mostly original condition and it wasn't even that abused! I'd say it was good to very good condition.

Unbelievable!

You don't even want to know what we had to do with it and the rest of the batch that was sent in.......:(

Why does so much cool stuff end up in these sh!tholes??

Because when they bought those firearms or were given them, they were next to worthless.

The Russians captured warehouses full of them and the Axis left them scattered all over Europe and Africa.

Syria could have had those rifles since they were new and the Axis shipped them to help out the Africa Corps or even the Italians. The advancement of the Allies may have stopped them from being distributed as well.

Appx 425,000 were built.

Lend Lease from Soviet satelites is another source.

To bad they can't be shipped to Canada. Maybe as dewats????

The world's first true assault rifle, the StG44 arrived too late to significantly effect the outcome of the war, but it gave birth to an entire class of infantry weapons that include famous names such as the AK-47 and the M16. After World War II, the StG44 was retained for use by the East German Nationale Volksarmee (People's Army) until it was replaced by the AK-47. The East German Volkspolizei utilized the weapon through 1962. In addition, the Soviet Union exported captured StG44s to its client states including Czechoslovakia and Yugoslavia, as well as supplied the rifle to friendly guerilla and insurgent groups. In the latter case, the StG44 has equipped elements of the Palestine Liberation Organization and Hezbollah. American forces have also confiscated StG44s from militia units in Iraq.

I suspect they will all go to the scrap pile if the rebels can't find ammunition or magazines for them.

Can they even bring in any more FA for Dewats?

Look at the trouble K&M in Edmonton had back in the 1990's.

Wasn't 1978 the last year to get 12.2 for FA, and 1992 for 12.3 for CA?

Can't even take them to the range if they brought them in as no ATT's anymore for either class.
