Why?

Not only does it look really funny but I can't see it being that useful.

The opposite of useful - actually makes things worse, like a lot of the FAB junk.

The AR is the honda civic of guns, people are just looking for crap to bolt on to them. When I see all these built up ARs i just see a kid in a purple 87 civic with neon lights underneath. The AR is actually a well balanced and very shootable gun without flashlights and CB radios/DVD players attached to them.

Percisely. Rifle was initially designed to be a lightweight rifle for jungle warfare. Soldiers tired fast just from trekking jungle terrain, so why burden them further. Thus how the space-age tech lightweight XM16E1 gained favor.

Aside from an optical sight, there isn't really much you need to add. The way I figure it, unless it helps improve your proficiency with the firearm, it's just useless dead weight. Honda analogy very good. I don't see anything wrong with customizing your rifle to make it more personal for yourself, because than at least you feel like you have something unique, however there should be a point when you tell yourself "this is enough".

I could not agree more. Finally "less is more" is gaining traction. Just because you have a rail system does not mean that you have to attach every POS that comes out from someone who thinks you should pimp your ride.

If it really serves no purpose, and I fail to see the advantage of having a loaded mag out front when a vest will be far more practical, then leave it on the store shelf. A 20 LB AR is just ridiculous.

Where the hell are my fuzzy dice?
