I have no experience with anything made by Franchi, I do not care for the Remingtons (have owned 2)
For $800 I would either get a used Browning Gold or Winchester SX3
Or buy a brand new Baikal MP153 and have enough left over to buy a cae or two of shells. A local shop here sells them for $475 for the black Synthetic or Wood and $530 for camo. I own one as well as many of my friends and NO ONE has had a lick of trouble with them.
They do not like the lightest target loads on a cold day until they are broken in but that's it.
I traded my Browning for one and have ZERO regrets.
You can get another bbl for your 870, The browning O/U you were shooting was likely a Citori or possibly a superposed. I shoot a Citori 20 and occasionally a 12 (my father owns the 12) The 20 kicks a bit much for a 20 but the 12 is a typical 12G. Autos will have less recoil. You were likely shooting 2 3/4" shells as I have never heard of 3" target loads (possibly cheap hunting loads)
The 11-87 is basically a slightly updated 1100, this thread discusses both. It is a good read. There is nothing wrong with them but they are and older design adn for $800 there is better out there.
