Wicked Recoil

Most of the full power Federal buck and slug loads are nasty. Especially the power shok stuff. I still have some 3" 15 pellet 00 buck that are absolutely brutal and the 1 1/4 oz slugs are a suckfest too. The only slug with enough recoil to knock the safety back on on my 590A1. My lgs finally brought in some Fed tactical flite control buck and its very pleasant to shoot.

A very experienced sporting clay shooter got to try out a shotgun with 3” turkey loads for the first time. Never listened about ‘hold on tight’ ….took a thumb in the nose. We all laughed and laughed, except one guy…

we used to shoot my brothers sxs shotgun with buck magnums … and let both barrels go at the same time ! It was much more recoil than my 6 1/2 lbs 300 win mag .. im much older and theres no way id do that now !
..If its recoiling that hard, i cant say id keep the red dot on it or you may end up with a red circle on your forehead .. lol. I had a 3006 that would do that with a scope on high see through mounts . That bastard would catch you off guard on occasion and give u a scope kiss..

Bought some federal 3” #4 buck last year and sighted in the ghost rings with it. Mounted the red dot the other day and wanted to zero it today. Put a piece of card board up at 10 yards and put a mark in the Center. Chambered a shell and pulled the trigger, holy crap that hurt the shoulder. Brought the red dot up about 10” and shot again. I told my buddy I’m done. I cant shoot it anymore. He shot it a few times and said the recoil was way worse than his pump 12ga 3-1/2”. This was on a 1301 T.
pistol grip or standard stock? I did some testing years ago. Pistol grip stocks on shotguns accentuate recoil when compared with standard stocks. It gets worse if you shoot kneeling or prone. I'm 56 now and do anything I can to mitigate recoil. Hate recoil

Try this on your 1301T, if it helps a 1 armed shooter it should help you too

I also have about 3 pounds more weight than the OEM 1301T

Mine is the standard stock. Tried it again against my son in laws benelli m4. The recoil is substantially worse with the 1301

It you pull backwards on the pistol grip in order to bring the gun tightly into your shoulder, rather than trying to brace against the recoil by pushing that hand forward, then they are no worse than a regular stock.

Try shooting 3 1/2" 2 1/4oz Federal premium Flite Control Turkey shells from the sitting position. A whole new meaning to the word UNCOMFORTABLE!!!

Would you like to try my brake? If so, PM me & see if we can work something out.

Just know that it can rub off some of the barrel paint under use.

Thanks for the offer. I think instead of shooting 3” I’ll end up using 2-3/4” #4 buck.
NP, I use;

Federal PowerShot slug 1610FPS 1oz

Federal Premium buckshot w Flight Control 1325 FPS 9P 11.35 g/cc

Without issues, 100 rounds is now a cake walk

The Limbsaver AirTech Slip-On Recoil Pad has saved my shoulder many times.
I use it when I have to sight in my shotguns with high powered slugs.
