wide angle scope

rear objective lens
= ocular ... but we all know what woodsman was describing.

Sometimes a wide field of view is distracting ... you can pick up a moving target - like a running deer - quickly, BUT some find that the well defined image of the rifle barrel and foresight (if mounted) in the field of view is annoying

It has a larger rear objective lens giving you a bigger field of view. If you have a bolt action, make sure it clears your bolt handle.

A guy in a gun store told me that if I buy a 50mm objective versus a 40mm objective in a scope I will get a better or a wider field of view.

Concerning your comments about the rear lens , do you know which scopes are made whith a wide angle .make and model please.

Thank you.

it isn't as simple as that....a 40mm obj. scope @ 4X AND 2 inches of eye relief "can" have a wider field of view than a 50mm obj. scope @4x AND 3 inches of eye relief. Do a search on the term "optical triangle" for some insight into the complexity of your question....then pick scopes in your budget and compare their FOV/Power/Eye Relief to select what you want for YOUR rifle (or airgun, shotgun, crossbow, rimfire or 416 Rigby)...

I was looking to buy a Leupold VX-III 3.5-10X50mm for a Remington LT Varmint fluted barrel Cal 22-250.

Doing some target shooting and some varmint shooting.

Any input. Thanks

Doing some target shooting and some varmint shooting
... for this type of shooting FOV isn't too critical assuming the varmints aren't running coyote's at close ranges ...
That Leupold is fine. I am not a huge fan of objectives much over 40mm as they increase the scope height over the bore and they attract fingerprints etc .. and to my eye they look a little large and awkward ... although not as bad as a 56mm objective...but if you are getting a reasonable price ... then that will work. ...and it won't be too out of place on a deer rifle if you want to use it on that as well. If you intend to stick only to the use you identify ... you might consider a 14x or 20x upper power variable which will be more specialized but also useful on smaller targets...
