My wife enjoys shooting and has been shooting moslty 22s. She wants to move up. I currently load 9 mm and 45 acp so I would like to keep her to those calibers.
Can anyone help... She wants a semi that is cute and light and has light recoil and fits a small hand.

any recommendations?

Take her to your local dealer and have her try a Walther P99/S&W P99 in 9mm. My wife has small hands and with it's different sized backstraps fits her the best of pistols. It only weighs 25 oz. Good luck in your search.

Light and light recoil don't normally go together. 9mm would be best. You can load it light but you would most likely need to get a lighter recoil spring.

How much do you have to spend on the gun? I think a Colt Commander would be nice. To reduce the size of the grip you could replace the arched hammer spring housing with a straight one.

If you were licensed for the 12(6) prohibited handgun class you would have a lot more options as far as cute goes.

If she has small hands, S&W M&P is a good choice. Take her to a gun store and try it first.

If she has bigger hands, then there are many other possibilities.

My wife feels that most all-steel guns (1911s and CZs) are too heavy. So she likes plastic guns only.

Consider an HK P7M8, smallest cutest gun that's still restricted.

Or consider a Glock 26 with restricted barrel from Questar.

I wouldn't classify the P99 as small but with the small grip insert it does fill the hand nicely.

Two of my girls are shooting a 9mm Baby Eagle, but a CZ is also similar. The BE has extra weight up front which makes recoil very controlable.

Another option is a Steyr M1-A, it has a comfortable small grip and a shorter reach to the trigger than a Glock 17.

If you do go for an M&P, check out Epps, they have lots and at a good price.

The M&P has interchangeable grips for small, medium and large hands.

+1 on the Steyr

It comes in 9mm .40 and .357sig, it's fairly light (polymer frame) has extremelly little recoil due to the super low bore axis and has very egronomic grip that should fit small hands very well. oh and overall it's smaller than Glock 17, M&P and XD 5" :)

Taurus 24/7 is another good choice...

My wife has small hands and she loves her Imbel (read : Springfield Armory Geneseo, Illinois) 1911 in 9mm. I installed a pair of Pearce Thin Slabs in rubber and a flat MSH and she is in heaven. She likes the recoil level of the 9mm in 1911. In the past I let her try my Springfield Loaded Parkerized 1911 .45 and she shot well, but still never warmed up to the 45 ACP round, especially for punching paper.

Now the 9mm, that's another story. She is happier than a pig in slop.

Hope this helps. Whatever you choose, ensure the your wife is happy !

my favorite modern pistol is the XD. Mine is in 40 but a 9mm would be the same/less recoil. For money no object, this is my choice.

Recently been playing with the Norc M77B. I am very impressed and surprised at how well this HG runs (can't shoot cast though). Dirt cheap with a good grip shape - very XD/Glock/CZ like. A bit heavier then the XD but recoil is very low with very little flip. I had more flip with a Sig 220.

Finally, the 1911. Great trigger. Surprisingly heavy even in a Commander if you get the full metal frame. No issue with grip shape but the hammer bite may be a concern depending on how she holds the gun. Very cantankerous to strip. For the classic, single stage shooter, this would be it and the Norc are great.
