I finally got my wife out for her first ever turkey hunt this morning. I havent had any luck early, so we planned to be in my blind for 7am and sit for a few hours.
We were out for 7am this morning, but someone else decided they needed my blind and chairs more than I did.
Sure feels like a kick in the sack.
I know I'm not the first, and I am sure I won't be the last, and it only takes a few rotten apples to spoil a bunch, but am I ever disappointed today.

Sorry to hear that. Bad enough that someone is low enough to swipe your gear but to have that be someone's first hunting experience is a heart breaker. Everyone wants to give the new hunter an experience that will last a lifetime. Only thing you can do is climb back on the horse and charge on. Hopefully it didn't tarnish her first day out. I'm taking my buddies daughter out in the morning for her first hunt ever. I'm praying everything works out and we can set the hunting hook in her.

That is so sad.... too bad there are people out there like that..... I hope karma kicks in for the two of you and the thief....

I hate stories like this for a few reasons.

1. Somebody's first outing got runied as did the persons' who was taking them. You were probably more excited about taking her than she was about going.

2. It bothers me to think a fellow hunter could do this if it were in fact a fellow hunter? I can see some do-goodie out for a stroll in the bush discovering it and thinking they are going to teach you a lesson for hunting but if it was a fellow hunter? Well......

3. It makes me curious knowing what people are like why you would leave your gear unattended? I once lent my bluebill spread to a buddy. He decided it was too much work to pick up the entire spread when he finished hunting that day and because he was on some remote lake(I lived in Timmins, On at that time) he reasoned nobody would show up there so he left the spread out figuring to go back and hunt the next day. He was not a happy camper when he showed up the next morning and the spread was gone and he was even less impressed when he had to replace 4 dozen bluebill decoys with weights and lines!

Don't leave your gear out unless you're looking to replace it?!

I have taken gear before, We always leave a note that they can take and exchange for a "Promise to Appear", but ironically, they never take us up on the offer - don't figure!

Explain why you would take it? I am going to assume they are trespassing on your land without permission? If not you've no right to touch anyones belongings and leave a note to appear if you want it back.

We were hunting property where I have written permission. I guess I should have known better, but I took the blind and chairs out 2 and a half weeks ago, when my 9 and 12 year old sons went for their first turkey hunts...and YES that was the 12 year olds first licensed turkey hunt.
Disappointed to say the least.

Regarding the above quote...I hope you removed someone elses stuff from your property.
I wish someone left a note for me...I would love to go pick up my stuff.

I unfortunately am hearing people losing gear more and more and especially this spring. Another blight on our sport. That and every hunt I have been on this spring I spend more time running off trespassers than hunting. This on 6 different property's I have permission on. When you find someone hunting without permission it amazes me the slime will not even take off their facemask. I have a new system though call the police and have them waiting then show the jerks the road. Might as well screw their day as they have done mine.

Also the young lad I hunt with had a borrowed blind stolen this spring. I went and bought a brand spanking new one and put it up in the same place. Didn't take long and until someone showed up for what they thought was another easy score, and a hunter to boot. The look on his face when I stood up in my Ghillie suit 10 yds away was priceless Was even better when I told him to drop his gear, pants shirt and coat included, or deal with the stout piece of hickory that was handy. 280 and 6ft in a ghillie suit must look imposing I guess and coming from a generation that is not afraid to settle things personally helps. Walking him to the road to the waiting cruiser was even better in boots and drawers. Now the video of theft under $5000 is going to make hunting a bit more of a chore for this jerk.

Moral of this is steal from me you will not be happy if I catch you and the average human ain't that hard to hunt. If you don't have permission stay the F@@@@ off the property

Sure you did... nice story... shoulda been wearing your Batman costume not a ghillie suit.

The "Promise to Appear" is what the Police will have you sign to show up in court after you get charged with Trespassing.

Actually no,, a PTA is for a criminal charge, trespassing is a Provincial charge,, they get a ticket.
I'd advise using caution when grabbing peoples stuff or telling them to "drop their pants" while threatening them... You are gonna look awful stupid being the one touched up by the police.

If I was the OWNER of such property, yes, I would remove it and leave a note. Other then that it may be theft. Just an FYI

There are hunters that give us all a bad name. There is a group that owns a hunting property behind my place and one of their permanent stands is right on the property line of my back field. Last spring I was walking my fence lines and found more than a dozen empty beer bottles that had been thrown out of their stand into my field. The previous fall I had 2 of my game cameras stolen off my property. I don't know if it was them but someone sure took them.
