My wife bought her first pistol yesterday. A SIG Mosquito. I know that there are very mixed reviews on this one, but she had to have it.

Have other owners found that the really high/hyper velocity ammo seems to work the best?
I like stingers, and yellow jackets for popping gophers, but don't know if I want to spend that much on .22 shells every time we go to the range...

Seems like a pretty well built little pistol.
Will give a range report once we can put it through its paces...

I tried Stingers in mine and had case head separations. Only one ammo type works in the pistol and that is CCI Mini-Mags, all others result in several FTE's, FTF's and stovepipes per magazine.

I read a whole bunch of posts on here and on other sites about this little Mosquito pistol. I have to say I was a little skeptical...
But am now quite happy. In the shooting of 2 boxes of stingers we had 2 failures to feed. The slide didn't pick up the next round from the mag, so the bullet would get half way to thew chamber, then the slide would dent the side of the case.
To me this gun was acting like it just needs some break in time more than anything. Accuracy was great! We didn't shoot paper, but had no problem with pop can sized target out toi 50 yards.

I will update with some target pics and a better accuracy report when i get it...

try minimags or 40g winchester powerpoints
remember the stinger has a slightly longer case than a regular 22LR and sometimes does not work well in semis

and all those guys that will now come on and say my 10/22 has never had FTF or FTE etc...good for you

I wanted to try Mini Mags first but our local "gunshop" is all out. A friend is giving me a box of Velocitors to try, and will try the Winchesters... Thanks

Hyper Velocity Ammo

I think you want to be careful using any hyper velocity ammo in a pistol, same can be said for alot of semi-auto rifles. The high speed ammo tends to return the bolt back into the receiver faster and harder than standard .22 cal and this can start to break parts and components. The CCI stuff kicked the #### out of my S&W 41, and this is a pretty heavy duty pistol.

I don't have any experience with the Mosquito, and if the mfg. says it's o.k. to use hyper velocity, then it is. However, if they suggest you don't use, then I'd stay away.

On 2 occasions, it cost me well over $200 to repair the S&W, and the damage was caused from hi-velocity stuff.

Just my 2 cents.

The Sig comes with 2 return springs. One for regular and one for hyper velocity stuf. It says that you can use the stingers and what not with the heavier spring , right in the manual....

Just a suggestion, take her apart (the handgun that is), clean her, oiler her really good and leave her well oiled, put back together and pick a good movie to watch on TV. Durring comercial, manually work the action again and again. When the movie is over, take her apart again, clean, apply oil normally and put back together. Take her to the range and see if this makes a differance.

I am suggesting this as I bought an Advantage Arms .22 Kit for my Glock and read similar concerns of it being ammo specific but may loosen after time. My kit shoots everything I fed it with only one stoppage so far and that was on the first mag.
