I just watched some show on Wild TV where they were hunting wild boar at some ranch outfitting place in Alberta, didn't catch where though.

They guy shot the boar with a 300 magnum 165 core lokt and it kept going !!!!!!!!!!! It was 400 lbs and dropped 30 yrds or so away.

What a big pig !!!!

all pigs should be shot on sight before they make there way into my forest and destroy that ecosystem to you think youtes are bad beware of the pig

I saw a boar hunt on youtube recently, might have been posted on here, not sure. Freaking thing took 6 -7 rounds from a .50 AE at 15 paces or less! And when he took that first round to the neck I thought he was going to kill everyone within 50 sq miles if they didn't finish him off! Scary ass boar! Definitelty have to do a hog hunt sometime, with a .500 S&W handcannon preferred :)

Truthfully, they are no harder to kill than your average whitetail but they can be a rush to hunt.......the hog farms are kind of anticlimatic but hunting them free-range can be very challenging. Hunting them with hounds can be downright scary!

You guys might think I am all not right in the head......But when I get settled in Alberta, sometime before spring thaw, I am planning to wild boar hunt in an area I scouted out 18 months ago.
I will be planning on using a cold steel wild boar spear. And most likely from an slightly elevated position.
Anyone else here have done? Any helpful advice? ;)

Spear????? what a wimp, put on some tights and WRASSEL the thing to the ground....haha.

That spear thing sounds like a rush, let us know how it works out for you.

I think most of the spear hunting is done in conjuction with hounds. I ran hogs in Florida once with hounds and we actually caught the hog by the hind legs first so we could gather up the dogs before dispatching the boar.....it was a rush to say the least.....

Thanks sheephunter...there-in lies my problem. I will be alone casing a used game-trail. It will I believe require absolute surprize from above to pull off.

I did notice from my boar hunt from before, that the largest male is often the front leader of the 'pack' and they often travel single file on wooded trails.
This travel is often from bedding areas, to wallowing holes. And then back again to feeding areas.
From what information, I have garnered on the net, once the big fella is in trouble, his buddies bail soonest. My limited experience agrees with this information.

Who knows.....may be this is all wrong??

Thanks SH, any success will certainly be posted on this forum for sure.

EDIT: On this note, I will soon me looking to purchase, some kind of protective gloves, hopefully to protect my digits from cutting/slashing from boar tusks possibly. I was wondering if any industrial workers or police officers/prison guards can recommend a lined glove/gauntlet, to prevent cutting hazard?? Maybe even a neck guard?? For sure eye protection. I know one can easily go overboard in this matter. And that is not what I want, just some basic, common sense protection for myself, and still be able to maintain stealth, mobility and dexterity.

Cheers Fellas........ :)

The butchers outfits, as well as the industrial supply places sell kevlar gloves. Stuff's a mother to cut. The industrial places sell them for handling hot bearings.

You might look at the Motocross gloves, too. You want (maybe) some armor, but still the flexibility, no?

Got a place and time in mind? Need a photographer/backup guy/witness? :)

Cheers
