In a couple of weeks I'll be heading up to North Battleford for a wild pig hunt. It is a canned hunt but only in the sense that a huge, savannah like area, has been fenced off and a whole lot of wild pigs have been let loose to live and breed there. It might sound like an easy, "shooting fish in a barrel" type thing but it isn't. If the pigs see you, you won't be seeing them again all day.
There are 30 to 40 wild pigs of different sizes on there right now; in the summer they like to go on their own while in the winter they like to forrage in groups of 5-10.
There are four of us going; the other three guys are bow hunters while I am going to try and take mine with a shot gun. I'll bring a bow as well and if I get one with the shot gun, I might attempt to take a second one with the compound bow.
If anyone is interested in setting up their own pig hunt, let me know and I'll hook you up with the details.
Here's how it works:
You don't need any hunting license of any sort. This is a private business and the farmer owns the land as well as the animals.
If you get a pig, it will cost you $1 per pound. An average adult male weighs between 150 lbs. and 200 lbs; there are smaller specimens as well as bigger ones. You have to put down a $50 deposit when you arrive there. If you get a pig, the deposit is counted towards your pig; if you don't, it will stay with the farmer and your deposit is paid for next time, and next time, until you get a pig.
There is a hunting cabin there with four bunk beds, and a skinnying set up with everything you will need, minus the knives. You'll need to bring water for drinking and skinnying and food for yourself and to lure the the pigs.
This will be my first time going but aparently I'll be hooked according to my buddies who all go there a few times during the summer and at least once during the winter.
You can't use a rife; only bows, spears or shot guns.
The guy also has buffalos that you can hunt. I don't know the price for that.
The hunting grounds look something like this:

Now, what advice can any who's hunted wild boar before give me?
