While out deer hunting, I came across several tracks from wild boar. I wasn't surprised to see them where I did, but it set the hair on my back up. I was loaded enough for them, and that would have been pretty cool to spot one. Anyway, they're out there and hopefully at some point over the winter I'll take another crack at them.

The deer evaded me in the bush. But they met me at the cottage driveway (twice) and then a small herd waltzed through my front yard here in Wpg some time last night. Some nice big footyprints.

I have always had a hard time with boar tracks... a big buck track is identical to a boar and a piglet is identical to a deer track.

How do you tell the difference?

The boar track has much more pronounced, moon-shaped main hooves which are spread apart more than a deer. It also has two smaller hind hooves(?) (which point backwards). I have pics of the ones I saw, but I've yet to learn how to post them.

I have found the best way to tell if they are Boar or deer is to look for the root marks.... Boars will tear up a bush... if it looks like someone has been plowing in there... it's Boars making the tracks.
