This past weekend, at Wild Boar Adventures near the Battlefords of Saskatchewan, I took a 100 lb young boar at Kelly's.
I was hoping to get the bigger first two, but by the time I got into shooting position, they had passed into the trees.

At around 12 noon on Saturday, said boar demised to my Ithaca Deerslayer
using Brenneke Classic slugs. All the summer practice paid off, plus I did carry out a re-confirm about 3 weeks ago. One could use Winchester foster style for 90% of the pigs, but when you run into Mr Big and Ugly, you will want the Brennekes for sure....

Boar hit at a range of 75 yards, punched clean through both lungs. Pig dead right there!
Bit of a ##### with the snow, but an excellent long weekend hunt overall.
Kelly has about 40 of so pigs on his property, with anywhere from little pigs to a guestimated 380 lb monster!

Lots of fun, I highly recommend this hunt. Be warned though if using archery gear, go with cut on contact broadheads, something you would use all the time for bears.....
 
Always wanted to take the old man on a hunt for boars.
What was the cost? I recall each boar was cheaper the more people in your hunting party.

Thank you...Pics are coming from my partner in Moose Jaw, so when i get them I will post for sure.
Cost was a $50 dollar non refundable deposit and the deposit went back on the dead weight of the pig, based on a dollar a pound. So my 100 pound pig cost me 100 dollars Canadian funds, total cost.

A really nice guy and an awesome host.....there is a small cabin good for two guys in winter, and possibly 3-4 in summer. It would be cramped for 4 though.
I highly recommend this truely unique hunting adventure. Just because they are "penned" does not mean it is easy.....
No high power rifles, just shotgun with slug, muzzleloader, bow and arrow or crossbow.
PS Do not underestimate these pigs can be very wiley.

So, how big of an area are you hunting? Is this an actual hunt, or are you walking into a pig pen and shooting the one against the fence? I've been looking for a boar hunt in Alberta, but the ones I've found are around $500 or more.
 
It was actually about 120 acres, with a good mix of open fields on top and a wooded valley and sloping hills. Seemed bigger when you walked around on foot.
We did not feel as if we were on a "canned hunt" so to speak....pigs and us, had lots of escape routes and trails.
 
There are suposedly wild ones in south west saskatchewan, on both sides of defenbaker.... but I havn't been lucky enough to find any, just tracks ect ect, odd farmer here spots them/shoots them. I wish we had 50 pigs per 1500acers, hell even 5 would make me giddy.
 
Thanks for the story Brutus... we used to enjoy Boar Hunting here until the gov't #### canned the game farms. It was one of the most exciting hunts with archery equipment... I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

Hey there Gunasauras, nice to hear from you! It was very well worth the bother. It was interesting using the shotgun and slugs like a rifle.

I guess one would have a hard time telling the difference in stopping power next to a modern 45-70. Next time, I may use a Browning recurve with Eskimo two blade broadheads.
Of course with proper back-up.

If you ever get the chance to do so on the wild praire plains, I highly recommend this type of hunt.
(with an adequate amount of acreage/and not a pen)
PS Just this afternoon Silverback and I are going to butcher the swine.
By the way all those Ontario stories give me heartburn, sorry to hear,fellow pig hunting CGNs!!!
