There were wild pigs in the Christina Lake area a few years ago - turned out to be escapes/releases from some small pig farm in the area. The numbers were rumored to be up to a couple dozen. They didn't last - there are plenty of folks with decent rifles here in the interior, and I suspect that domestic oinkers aren't that good at wilderness survival either.
I have been asking local hunters about wild pigs for the last decade or more. Despite ranging all over the province, nobody ever saw any or even knew someone who personally saw/killed any, other than the aforementioned escapees in the Boundary.
I find the breathless reports from media and government types on how wild pigs are "overrunning" the interior quite interesting, when nobody who would gladly harvest one has ever even seen one. In contrast, I know that there are plenty of deer (idiots), elk, sheep, bears, wolves, coyotes, foxes, racoons, skunks, porcupines, and even moose, all from personal observation (usually in strolling distance of my front door). Wouldn't someone actually see some of these pigs if we are "over run"??? Why do I suspect that it is the imaginations of certain government types that are being over-run?
