We had an adult hen wild turkey at our deer feeding station today. First one I've seen here in 21 years, she was eating the leftover corn at our deer feeding station. We live on South shore of Lake Nippissing, near Callander...

My wife saw a wild turkey just after leaving North Bay, heading east on #17, last year. I was driving and didn't see it, but I trust her. She knows a turkey when she sees one.
Up until then the furthest north I saw a wild turkey was Petawawa.

I almost hit four hens this morning on the way to work. Jerks. They think they own the road.

Less arrogant than moose though.

They've been around Powassan for some time now. Ive seen them 5-6 years ago in the fields. Callander is a stone's throw away.

They're a nuisance where I live in Muskoka. My family in Burk's Falls has plenty around the property.

You have solved the mystery surrounding the decline in the moose population.

Obviously the Turkey's are encroaching and pushing the Moose out of their traditional habitat :)

Cool Jim - good to hear. I think I mentioned it last year but I seen 2 in my back lot last spring as well. They do seem to be popping up here and there. With any luck we'll be hunting them closer to home someday in the future.

Just have to light some candles, pipe in some romantic music and keep your fingers crossed :)

About 10 years ago while moose hunting near the French River we watched the MNR trucks drive into a private road with a dozen cardboard boxes. Turns out it was a wild turkey release.
We saw them that year and that year only !!! Heard some were seen around Alban but me thinks they were just too tempting for the locals !!

So have I been in Callander for years Adrian...in the bush 360 days a year. 1 in 21 yrs, till this year....But I have heard of odd sightings. I think the hen is nesting, she shows up mid day, eats quickly and disappears.Heres hoping. Jim
