Does anybody have experience being a member at Wild West Shooting Centre in West Ed? The impression I get is that the range officers breathe down your neck more so than other places, but maybe the shooters I saw were all day-pass people/tourists. Which leads me to my next question: how crowded does it get?

I am a member and now that they know me they tend to put the gun and ammo on the table and leave me alone. You have to remember it's a tourist trap and they have people come in that don't know a gun from a hammer. When I first went there they where breathing down my neck, but don't any more

I was a member about 10 years ago or so when I purchased my first handgun from them. Nice enough facility but I found the memberships expensive and at the time you could only shoot ammo purchased from them. I was shooting .40 at the time and paying $24 a box. Can only imagine how much it costs now or if they have the same policy?

All that being said the staff were nice and the location was convenient for me, and it was inside.

Never been a member, but the one time I did go there a few summers back it was alright. Told the guy I was military and he pretty much left me alone. Most times I've been through there (just browsing their selection) it's seemed pretty busy. Like has been said though there are a lot of tourists that go there. I think they'd be better off having a couple of lanes just for members so they don't have to wait in line (unless they do that these days already) especially for the price.

Expensive as hell!
Join up at phoenix instead, some of the ro's are douche bag mall ninjas but for the most part their pretty good. I have a long team too phoenix from here in stoon and go there everytime im in edmonton usually once or twice a month.

Isn't Phoenix more expensive? According to their site membership is $475, but at Wild West it's $200.

I used to work at the Post Office Depot just up the street from there and during my lunch hour I'd go over and shoot a few rounds. I found it a good way to release that pent up frustration that builds up in a postie. Know what I mean? :D It's a good place to shoot and the rates are reasonable. IMHO

I wouldn't join Wild West, last time I was in there three guys came in smelling strongly of dope. They let them in the range to shoot. Did not impress me.

Really expensive, was ignored by they staff when trying to get into rent some guns and try them out.

Don't bother with them, drive a little way and go to "Phoenix" indoor range, their staff actually cared and didn't come off as pissed off at the world.

Yeah Phoenix is more expensive but you don't have to purchase your ammo from them. Reloads are acceptable with a few exceptions. They also have a four 38 yard rifle bays as well. They have their share of walkups as well but I'm guessing not as many as Wild West.

I had the opposite experience from them breathing down my neck. Instead, the RO assigned to my friend and I showed us how to load our mags, how to aim and load, and then stood back about 4 feet. Not a good thing when its your first time shooting and you end up having a problem. The Glock my friend was shooting ended up having a stovepipe and it took the RO almost a minute to realize that my friend had stopped shooting and that something was wrong. Once we finished our rounds, we left with holes in paper, most of them not on the target itself.

My first time at Phoenix was a much more positive experience. Our RO was very friendly. He showed us how to load and then, after the first mag, loaded the rest for us. He figured we were there to put holes in paper, not to get frustrated at loading that 10th round in the mag. When I took my first five shots, he got my attention, and gave me some tips on my grip and stance. Immediate improvement in my groupings. The entire time, he was helpful with a sense of humour. During that shoot, I ended up with a stovepipe in the Glock I was shooting. The RO immediately reached over, took the Glock, explained what happened and how to clear it. Not only did I put lead down range, I learned several things at the same time.

Every time I've gone to Phoenix since, the experience has been the exact same. Every time, I have learned a little bit more.

was there about 4-5 years ago with the familie once i found the place it was great let them do the whole bigest mall in canada thing, call if you need me i'll be shooting.Bought a 9mm and they let me use it insted of the rental glocks

Thanks for all the input guys. Ultimately I ended up calling them up and it turns out you have to buy their ammo, even if you bring your own gun. Because that's a massive load of BS, I decided to take my business to SGGC.
