I not found alot on this yet, maybe you folks could help me out (or talk me out of it!!)
I have heard that my standard 257wby can augered out to a 257stw or a 257-300wby(?) and using ultraslow powders (that were unavailable in Roy weatherbys day).
apparently these will create some OUTRAGEOUS velocitys and remain within reasonable pressure (100grains at 4200+fps)

This is true, you will however experience EXTREMELY and OUTRAGEOUSLY short barrel life.
The 257 STW is worse of a barrel burner than the 7STW by about 200% and unless you have a real long barrel, all you will get is a truly awesome muzzle flash

Another problem you are likely to run into is bullet integrity. When run at such elevated velocities, some bullets fail or give really crappy accuracy.

Look at the selection from Wildcat bullets. He is making some really heavy 25cal bullets which will make a STW more viable. 140 or heavier bullets at 3000fps+ would be an amazing LR rig.

Velocity is interesting but fizzle out when distance extend beyond 500yds. High BC heavies going 3000fps are amazing out past a mile.

To max these horridly overbore cartridges, shooters in the US are using surplus powders from BMG and 20mm Vulcan shells. Not easily available here. So do a bit of research into what powders are needed. This may hamper your performance goals.

H50BMG and H869 are probably the two slowest powders readily accessible in Canada. If you need something slower, I would change your plans.

Also, start thinking 28 to 32" barrels.

hey thanks guys, 32" long bbl eh...hmmm, that has some potential problems slogging through the bush...maybe im not ready for this 'next level' as of yet. maybe a more 'logical' wildcat would be more friendly.
Thanks again
