Will a new barrel let my shotgun handle 3 1/2 loads?

Hey guys so right now I have an 870 express defender style (18.5, 6+1, 3'')
that I am looking to retrofit waterfowl. My question is if I buy a new barrel that says its good for 3 1/2 shells will my receiver handle them with the new barrel?

No. You must have a super magnum 3.5" reciever for 3.5 inch shells.

Stick to 2 3/4" or 3" shells.
