Will a original SIG P226 mag fit perfectly in a Norinco NP22?

Anyone had any experience using SIG magazines on their NP22? I just had a MEC GAR mag which needs to be slammed hard to make it fit my NP22, and would like to know if this problem also exists with the factory P226 magazine.

The NP34 (P228 copy) I had needed the grips changed to genuine SIG grips. It was a mag base / grip contour fit problem, where Norinco mags fit with Norinco grips. Check to see where the mag is hanging up -- I bet it's at the base of the grips.

I just received my Mecgars for the wife's NP22. Initially they would not lock into the magwell, no matter how much force you used. Upon inspection, I found that the plastic base plates were too thick for the mag to seat fully and engage the magazine lock. After a small amount of filing on the upper surfaces of the base pads, they fit just fine. I also manually cycled full mags of snap caps through them, and never had an issue with FTFs. I guess a day at the range will be in order.

I'm going to resurrect this thread, just so I don't have to create a new one.

I bought some Sig P226 magazines today for my NP-22, and I can't get them to fit in. They go in fine, but don't actually lock. Reading this thread, it seems somewhat hit or miss on if they'll work or not.

From what I can tell, it looks as though the cut out for the magazine latch on the sig is slightly lower than the NP-22 magazines, I took a couple pictures (apologies for the picture quality, im not much of a photographer). Just to be certain it wasn't my grips interfering, I took them off entirely and still had no luck.
In the pictures below, the NP22 mag is on the left, and the sig is on the right.

Is my best option to file the hole for the magazine catch to enlarge it, or just return the magazines? These are the 'Made in USA' sig mags, so presumably Check-Mate instead of the Mec-Gar. Thanks for any help.

I found the same, I tried another guys Sig 226 mags in my NP22, they would go in but not engage the mag catch. His Mec-gar mags on the other hand, worked just fine. I would try filing the hole on your mag to get it to work. I don't think it would take much, your choice though.

Thanks Chris. I gave it a shot, and just in case anyone else has the same problem: Filing the little mag catch hole does the trick. Filed upwards a little bit, only needed about 1-2mm or so. Put some sharpie on the bare metal, so it doesn't stick out as much. I didn't do the best job of filing, so the hole isn't perfectly straight, but the magazine seats and drops out perfectly fine now.
